Cheerleaders for professional sports teams are often dancers with backgrounds in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop and tap. After beating out dozens of other dancers for the job, they have a chance to show off the athletic and dancing skills they have honed for years. But they quickly learn that performing during sporting events is only a small part of their job description. They are also required to fulfill what often becomes the unsavory side of the job: interacting with fans at games and other promotional events, where groping and sexual harassment are common.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he would “either have knelt or raised my fist in solidarity” in the clash between President Trump and NFL players kneeing during the national anthem. “I felt like our president’s responses were being dictated by the noise, and not the actual problem,” Johnson said in an interview with Rolling Stone, adding that the protests were “a cry for help.” He added: “I think when human beings are in jeopardy, and they ask for help, good-quality human beings, whether locally or at the highest level of office, they help.” Last year, Johnson criticized the way Trump...

The Combine is a huge part of the NFL Draft process for prospects, and in addition to position drills and basic athletic testing, prospects are asked to take the Wonderlic test. The scores of these tests are supposed to remain private, but every year some of them get leaked. This year, most of the quarterback scores have been made public by former NFL scout John Middlekauff. He listed off the scores on a recent Fox Sports Radio podcast appearance on "The Herd With Colin Cowherd."

Male cheerleaders are making NFL history this season Are you ready for some … male cheerleaders? The Los Angeles Rams are set to break NFL ground by becoming the first team to have male performers on its cheerleading squad. The two California natives, Quinton Peron and Napoleon Jinnies, were among 76 finalists who auditioned for the 40-member spirit team, ABC News reports. Peron said he recently attended a Lakers game in Los Angeles and realized that he might be missing out. “And I was asking myself, ‘Why can’t I be down there?’” Peron said Wednesday during an interview on “Good...

Quinton Peron and Napolean Jinnies will step out on the field this season, cheering and dancing alongside the previously all-female team. "I thought, 'Why not me? Why can't I do this?' And called my friend and I asked her when auditions were for the Rams and she told me Sunday [March 11] and I showed up," Peron said in an interview on "Good Morning America." The two men and California natives were among the 76 finalists who auditioned for the...

NFL team owners have unanimously given their final approval to an unprecedented $90 million social justice initiative but have made no decisions about how to handle players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. Instead, owners are expected to continue the discussion about whether to change the game-day policy, which does not require players to stand, at the spring league meeting in May, according to a post on NFL.com citing the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “The NFL is committing $90 million to a new social justice initiative that supports efforts and programs to combat social inequality,” the NFL post...

That's billion with a big, old capital B The Los Angeles Rams are currently engaging in one of the more aggressive construction builds in modern sports history, erecting a palatial tribute to west coast football out in Inglewood, California. The NFL also recently announced it would be moving its NFL Media headquarters to the facility, and rumblings persist about the combine being shipped out of Indianapolis to Los Angeles. In short, this facility is not going to be just a stadium: it's going to a complex and headquarters for a billion-dollar industry. The price tag for that HQ is skyrocketing,...

Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin is under investigation, after a woman in Texas accused him of domestic violence. According to a report from WFAA, his girlfriend told police an incident that began with an argument over a text message led to an incident, in which she suffered a broken jaw. “So he goes into a choke. I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down. And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all,” Shabrika Bailey said. “The pressure was just hard. The pressure got hard to where I just remember...

We’re well into the NFL’s free agency period and veteran safety Eric Reid still hasn’t signed with a team, even though he’s proven to be a reliable contributor over five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Last week, Reid said his current unemployment stems from the fact that he has continued to protest social issues during the playing of the national anthem, even with former 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick out of the league in 2017. On Thursday, however, Reid announced that he won’t be taking a knee during the national anthem upon his return to the field, instead promising to...

Newly signed Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett has been indicted by a Harris County grand jury for allegedly assaulting an elderly person. According to local Houston news outlet KHOU, Bennett was indicted on Friday for “injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic who was working at NRG Stadium to control access to the field at Super Bowl LI.” Authorities claim Bennett was a spectator at the game and was cheering on his brother Martellus, then New England Patriots tight end. After the Patriots won, Bennet reportedly tried to storm the field but the victim told him to use a different entrance. He...

Whoever buys the Carolina Panthers is going to have to pony up. But we’re not just talking about something like $1.5 billion. No no, it’s far more than that. In fact, it’s already past $2.5 billion. Needless to say, this would set a record for the sale of a U.S. pro sports team. “The price of the Carolina Panthers has reached $2.5 billion, according to people familiar with bids for the NFL team, which would set a record for a U.S. professional sports franchise.”

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Before a reporter could go there with Carolina Panthers rookie running back Christian McCaffrey, right guard Trai Turner took it there. Turner rightly figured the discussion would turn to the fact that McCaffrey is among the handful of white players at his position in the NFL. “Have you seen him run?” Turner asked. “If you’ve seen the guy run, you don’t think about it [his race]. White, black, red, green — I don’t care what color he is. He’s special.” Nine games into his professional career, McCaffrey has flashed the talent that prompted the Panthers to...

NFL free agency hasn't even started. Teams can’t negotiate with impending free agents until Monday. So how are we even hearing reports of players heading to specific teams? Well, the NFL has not done a tremendous job keeping teams in check in this regard. The plethora of reports linking Kirk Cousins to the Minnesota Vikings is the latest example of this. Now, according to SiriusXM Radio’s Adam Caplan (h/t Zig Fracassi of the same outlet), indications are that Cousins will sign a free agent deal with Minnesota once the market opens up on Wednesday. Said deal is expected to value...

Peyton Manning may be ready for some football, but not on Monday Night. Manning has decided that if he becomes an NFL TV analyst, it will be on Fox’s new Thursday night package and not on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” sources told The Post. He is still undecided if he will work for Fox or not. Both ESPN and Fox have wanted Manning to try to replicate the sizzle CBS had with Tony Romo last fall. So what was a two-network pursuit for Manning is now down to one. Fox continues a concerted effort to turn “Thursday Night Football” into...
