CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and comedian Dave Chappelle are among eight people being honored by Harvard University for their contributions to black history and culture, the university announced Thursday. All eight recipients of the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal will be honored by the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard. FULL TITLE: NFL’s Nightmare Becomes Reality As ‘Monday Night Football’ Posts Worst Week 2 Ratings EVER Recorded The NFL is not going to fold. They are way too big to be derailed by a controversy like this but there’s no doubt they have lost fans which means they have lost money that they didn’t need to lose. The NFL season has gotten off to a rough start in primetime, with Thursday Night Football ratings the latest to drop. The Week 2 Ravens-Bengals Thursday Night Football game had a 4.2 rating and 7.02 million viewers on NFL Network, down 14% in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (Texans-Bengals: 4.9, 8.08M). Compared to NFL Network’s first exclusive game in 2016, Dolphins-Bengals in Week 4, ratings fell 13% (from 4.8) and viewership 11% (from 7.90M). Not including over-the-air simulcasts, the Bengals’ win was NFL Network’s least-watched season opener since 2014 — when the network did not make its...

There are critical points about the 70th Emmy Awards to keep in mind, starting with this: The ceremony airs Monday. Typically held on a Sunday, it was punted one day so this year’s host network, NBC, could accommodate its “Sunday Night Football” franchise (New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, for viewers inclined toward that spectacle). As for what the 8-11 p.m. EDT awards telecast will offer, the basics are 26 categories with nominees including defending drama champ “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s challenged by 2016 winner “Game of Thrones,” which aired outside the eligibility window for last year’s awards and wants...
  • NFL Hell Continues As Ratings Crater For Dallas Cowboys

The NFL – suffering from dismal ratings for last week’s opening game and Sunday Night Football, may be in for a serious decline in viewers this season if Dallas local TV ratings are any indicator – after the Cowboys registered their lowest local ratings since 2009. "The Dallas market is an important market for one of the most watched teams in the country. There is a reason the Cowboys are valued at over $4 billion dollars. They absolutely own Dallas Fort-Worth. Nothing else really matters. … The NFL does not want to see one of it’s most important market losing...

America’s Team may still be America’s Team, but America’s Team isn’t drawing the same kind of eyeballs in their home market. Via Barry Horn, formerly of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys generated a Week One rating of 28.2 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for their road game at Carolina. That’s the lowest number since the Cowboys produced a 25.2 in 2009.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Shoppers got more than they bargained for Thursday at the Promenade in west Little Rock after police showed up to find man waving a flag outside the Nike store. "Now what better place to wave the flag than right here in front of the Nike store," Jimmie Cavin can be heard saying in a video he posted to Facebook. Cameras captured Cavin sitting outside the store with a blue-line flag fluttering in the wind. "It was lunch time, so they were full and I know people were watching from over there," Cavin said in an interview...

Carolina Panthers owner and hedge fund mogul David Tepper has slammed President Trump regarding his national anthem protests stance. Speaking to CNBC, Tepper – who bought the Panthers for $2.2 billion in May – said the attacks on players who protest during the national anthem is “the biggest pile of bull-dinky ever.” Although Tepper didn’t specifically name President Trump, it was clear whom he was talking about, referring to “Howdy-Doody” and “the red-headed guy in DC” during the interview.

Nike had previously faced a noticeable dip in its stock price in the immediate aftermath of its Kaepernick announcement, dropping nearly 3 percent in the next day of trading at the New York Stock Exchange. When Turlock, California’s Pitman High School was coming up with a list for its inaugural athletic hall of fame class, it probably didn’t take long before they got to former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Twelve years after he graduated from Pitman, five years after he led the San Francisco 49ers to within inches of a Super Bowl title and one year after GQ named him its Citizen of the Year for his highly publicized social activism, Kaepernick will headline his prep alma mater’s first hall of fame class. Kaepernick is expected to attend the ceremony along with eight other inductees...
