Jeb Bush is exploring a 2016 presidential bid. The former Florida governor said in a post on Facebook Tuesday that over the Thanksgiving holiday there was a lot of discussion about the future of the nation. “As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States,” Mr. Bush said. Failed Senate candidate Alvin Greene is trying again for public office, this time aiming for a seat in the South Carolina House. Voters go to the polls Tuesday to vote in the Democratic primary for a seat that belonged to a woman who died last year, and Greene, the improbable candidate who faced Republican Sen. Jim DeMint in the general election in November, is on the ballot. In December, Greene paid the $165 fee to the Clarendon County Democratic Party to enter the race, just five minutes after the filing period opened. The special election is set for April 5....

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Alvin Greene, the unemployed Army veteran who suggested during his failed U.S. Senate bid that making action figures of himself would help create jobs, is running for office again. Greene paid the $165 filing fee on Christmas Eve to run in a special election for a South Carolina House seat made vacant by the death this month of Rep. Cathy Harvin. Cal Land, the chairman of the Clarendon County Democratic Party, said Greene entered the race five minutes after the filing period opened. A primary will be held Feb. 15 with the special election set for April...

I’ll have to see,” Greene told POLITICO when asked whether he was considering filing to run for president. He confirmed that he called the state party Tuesday to ask about the fee. The state party’s spokeswoman, Keiana Page, confirmed that someone called...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Demand for big-ticket manufactured goods plunged in August by the largest amount in seven months, with widespread weakness signaling a slowdown in the nation's industrial sector. The Commerce Department reported Wednesday that orders for durable goods, everything from commercial jetliners to home appliances, fell by 4.9 percent in August, the biggest decline since a 6.1 percent fall in January. It was far larger than the 3.5 percent drop that economists had been expecting and resulted from across-the-board decreases in a number of categories. The concern is that the steep downturn in housing and turbulence in financial markets...

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Thursday that it will sell nearly 300 generic drugs at $4 a prescription beginning in Florida this week and spreading to as many states "as possible" next year. The program will be available to insured and uninsured consumers, a move that also will help stem criticism of Wal-Mart's employee health-care policies. The program, announced in Florida, will begin at 65 Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Neighborhood Market stores in Tampa Bay. All other stores in Florida will be offering the program in January, the company said. Wal-Mart said the program also will fill the...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - They are jumping ship or receiving the pink slip. America's real estate agents and mortgage lenders, that is. ADVERTISEMENT Now that the glory days of the most recent U.S. housing market are over, its deterioration is taking a toll on employees who profited from its record-breaking five-year run. With home sales slumping and loan demand diminishing, layoff announcements and resignations have become increasingly common, evidence that the sector's slump is broad. Carmen Cook, a veteran real estate broker, saw the writing on the wall and decided to retire earlier this year. "The market changed and my...
