While listing her demands of Republicans, House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) demanded “amnesty” for illegal aliens Thursday, then caught herself and called for “asylum and all the rest,” instead. […]“We demand immediately to know what they intend to do unite these families, end the zero tolerance. I won’t even go into the policy about amnesty — I mean not amnesty; they’d love for us to say that — asylum and all the rest. You all know that very well and you’ve testified to it.” …

Victor Davis Hansen has written a piece entitled Beware of ‘Comprehensive’ Anything, in which he details how Comprehensive legislation rarely becomes law, and any that does is usually disastrous. Just take a look at the ‘Comprehensive’ bills or strategies we’ve had in the past few years: * Comprehensive health care reform * Comprehensive climate change reform (cap-and-trade) * Comprehensive reset of foreign policy * Comprehensive immigration reform * Comprehensive social security reform As much as I would have liked to see the last item enacted, Hansen has a point. Russ Karpisek of Wilber introduced a bill (LB403) in the Legislature, on Heineman’s behalf. Among the benefits covered in the bill are food assistance, unemployment, public housing, welfare and retirement. Unlike a similar bill pushed by Heineman last year that was not approved, it would not also repeal a law that allows children of illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition.

Sir: Regardless what euphemism you place on your plan to legalize illegal aliens currently in the United States, it is an effectual amnesty. The only reason current immigration laws are not working is because they are not enforced. We already tried an amnesty in 1986 which resulted in the situation we are dealing with today. If your amnesty plan is enacted, it will result in at least 60 million new residents in the USA, (considering that each of the current illegal residents have at least 4 family members to be legalized also). I consider your outrageous plan to be pandering...
