Early this summer, the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church convened, representing 120,000 Methodists in the greater New York area. Based on its resolutions, the meeting sounded more like a MoveOn.org rally than a church convention. The Methodists called for President Bush’s impeachment, commended divestment in firms doing business with Israel, and urged support for “progressive” Latin American regimes like Venezuala’s Hugo Chavez. And, oh yes, they demanded an expeditious U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. What does all that have to do with Christianity? Arguably, not much. But liberal Protestantism, which denies or minimizes the transcendent doctrines of...

I am curious why none of the media covers the most important aspect of the Malvo shootings. If you look at Newspapers on the dates when the shootings are underway you discover something I find quite interesting. The shootings begin to dominate the news the day before the debate on the Iraq war starts and they catch them the day after the declaration of war??? If you ask most people "do you remember the debate about starting the second Iraq war", they will all answer "yes of course". But if you followup with the question "name one point in the...

I recently received a reply to a post that stated: "This should be beneath a "freeper". Sad." So I asked.. what is it that makes a FReeper? My reply (and I will admit was tasteless) was also questioning. It stirred controversy and was removed? Why Moderators? Can you not tell me? Did it not meet with your "FReeper" mentality? According to all posted guidelines it should be listed but no, you chose to delete it. Yes.. I'm the first one IBTZ, I'm sure you'll nick me for speaking up..

ROCHESTER, NY Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-Rochester) today unveiled a plan that she says will help stabalize gas prices in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. In the last couple of weeks gas prices have increased dramatically, but Slaughter says that doesn't necessarily have to happen. Slaughter has introduced the "Emergency Petroleum Allocation Act." It would temporarily cap the price of gas at 2-dollars 50-cents a gallon. It would also direct the Secretary of Energy to develop criteria for declaring the sort of national fuel emergency that would trigger future price controls. Slaughter says if her plan garners enough support there could...

SALT LAKE CITY — The Summum religion has sued the city of Pleasant Grove for the right to display the other set of laws they say Moses brought down the mountain. The city has refused to allow the Salt Lake City-based religion to erect a monument enumerating the Seven Aphorisms, principles they say underlie creation and nature, with a public memorial that includes the Ten Commandments. Summum leaders believe these were initially passed only to a select few who could understand them, but that Moses also delivered a lower set of laws, the Ten Commandments, which were more widely distributed....

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

Regardless of who you believe, Terri Schiavo's parents or her husband, WHY do we treat convicted murderers better than we are treating Terri? Dear concerned citizen, Imagine if you will, that convicted cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal had a bad lawyer during his murder trial. Assume further that when the new lawyer took over the case, she found credible evidence not originally presented on Jamal's behalf, evidence which could cast reasonable doubt upon the guilty verdict. And then imagine that despite this newly uncovered evidence, one court after another obstinately refused to permit a new trial so that the new...

<p>A Georgia man's experience only goes to prove what most people take as common sense: Don't try to mix dangerous chemicals in your pants.</p>
<p>According to newspaper reports, three Walker County social workers were visiting Daniel Gabriel Doyle, 39, of LaFayette, last Tuesday. As he sat in their car filling out paperwork, his pants exploded.</p>

The following letter appeared in my local newspaper today, and I suspect that similar letters have appeared in newspapers across the nation. I will try to answer these points. First the letter: Dear Editor: 1. I would like to know why ''liberal'' is a negative word. I am a registered Democrat, vote, and try to lead a good life. 2. I believe that I should help my fellow citizens whenever I can. 3. I believe that I don’t have the right to tell you how to believe. I support other people's rights to free speech, choice, and beliefs. 4. I...

What do we offer the world? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: May 19, 2004 1:00 a.m. Eastern "So, how do we advance the cause of female emancipation in the Muslim world?" asks Richard Perle in "An End to Evil." He replies, "We need to remind the women of Islam ceaselessly: Our enemies are the same as theirs; our victory will be theirs as well." Well, the neoconservative cause "of female emancipation in the Muslim world" was probably set back a bit by the photo shoot of Pfc. Lynndie England and the "Girls Gone Wild" of Abu Ghraib prison. Indeed, the filmed orgies among...

<p>TOKYO -- When the first Japanese troops arrive in Iraq later this month, they will mark Japan's largest and most controversial military deployment since World War II.</p>
<p>The deployment also highlights Japan's cautious move away from half a century of a defense-only military policy. Japan renounced military action after its 1945 defeat. A new constitution, largely written by U.S. occupation forces, forbade the country from going to war and from deploying military forces for other than defensive purposes. The country doesn't even officially have a military -- the "Self-Defense Forces" aren't referred to using words such as "army" or "navy."</p>

Up yours. Would it be OK for me to use language like that? Or does it all depend? Should I check with you first? I ask only for information. posted on 05/02/2003 9:21 PM PDT by Romulus To: Romulus Well, we'll see if a moderator bans me or deletes the post. But either way, I'm not particulaly [sic] proud of the post. Just one of my infamous trademark partings with an antifreeper. posted on 05/02/2003 9:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson
