MSNBC’s Joy Reid said Tuesday on her network’s New Hampshire primary coverage that to defeat President Donald Trump, the 2020 Democratic nominee will have to “fight like a Republican.” Reid pointed to former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg because “he is a Republican, or used to be, anyway.” Reid said, “He still sounds like a Republican to a lot of people. So it’s a weird coalition.... (snip) (Reid) continued, “I know Republicans who — they don’t mind the fiscal policies of Trump. They like that, but they also want to sleep at night. If you’re a Republican and still...

With the retirement of 14 term Republican Congressman Peter King, a South Shore Long Island Congressional District opens up for the first time in years. In what was seen as a safe district for Republicans with Peter King, New York's Second Congressional District now becomes a tossup between Republicans and Democrats. Stretching from the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County to the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, Democrats enjoy a slight enrollment advantage in this 70% Suffolk County, 30% Nassau County District. As of mid-November 2019, the district was home to 159,500 Democrats and 149,469 Republicans but add...

With a rash of vaping-related lung illnesses across the nation, including one death in New York State, Governor Cuomo is looking to ban flavored nicotine products. "The priority, I believe, is vaping. That's young people. That's young people who are dying," Cuomo said. But smoking still kills and sickens far more people. There are roughly 28,000 deaths from smoking in New York State each year, and roughly 750,000 people are living with smoking-related illnesses. Lawmakers are looking to ban menthol cigarettes in New York State, which often are marketed to young people, and African-Americans. "Over 80% of African-Americans prefer to...

Former Trump campaign manager Steve Bannon told FNC's Maria Bartiromo in an interview on "Sunday Morning Futures" that he doesn't think any of the declared Democratic candidates have the ability to beat President Trump in the 2020 election. Bannon suggests that Democrats may have to recruit Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, or Michael Bloomberg to stop Trump from being re-elected. STEVE BANNON: I said this last week, Maria, I don't see anybody on that stage right now that can take President Trump one on one. I pride myself, he's called me his star pupil, his top pupil, I've been studying this...

Now that the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination has officially started, one of the big issues that will likely come up is which candidate is the most electable. One way to find that out is to see how the different possible candidates have done in the past. Of course, it's difficult to compare candidates when they run for different offices in different years. There are, however, six potential 2020 Democratic contenders ran who ran for the US Senate in 2018. The big takeaway from those results: Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Sherrod Brown of Ohio are above-average candidates...

RUSH: Here’s another little news story that… You know, if you dig deep — if you dig deep — eventually the left, the Democrats, will betray their fears. They will always tell you what they’re afraid of. They will always tell you who they are afraid of. Thomas B. Edsall in the New York Times: “Trump Is Winning the Online War — The technical superiority and sophistication of the president’s digital campaign is a hidden advantage of incumbency.” Ohhhh, it’s a “hidden advantage of incumbency.” It doesn’t have anything to do with Trump’s people! “For all his negative poll numbers...

Anyone wondering why religious people still support Donald Trump, despite his flaws, need only watch a recording of the Democrats’ fanatical LGBTQ town hall last week. From Elizabeth Warren mocking religious males as incapable of finding a wife to Beto O’Rourke’s promise to strip tax benefits from religious institutions, or Cory Booker’s assertion that Catholics use religion to justify discrimination, you see the ugly face of militant secularism and coercion. It is frightening that every one of the nine Democratic candidates who took part in the CNN event has signed up to extreme policies that attack religious liberty and radically...

The retirement of longtime New York Rep. Nita Lowey could open the door for a political newcomer with big political name — Chelsea Clinton. “Is Chelsea Clinton going to make her move?” one New York Democrat asked shortly after learning of Lowey’s retirement. Page Six first reported in 2016 that the former first daughter was being groomed for the 17th district seat. The district includes Rockland County and portions of Westchester, including the Chappaqua home of Bill and Hillary Clinton. “Chelsea would be the next extension of the Clinton brand,” a source said at the time. A spokesman for the...

The extremist, antisemitic LaRouche PAC claimed responsibility for the “troll” at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) town hall on Thursday, who said we must “eat the babies” in order to save the planet from climate change. The bizarre moment unfolded at Ocasio-Cortez’s town hall at the Queens Public Library on Thursday after a woman stood up and proclaimed that we must “eat the babies” to save the planet from climate change, leaving the New York lawmaker dumbfounded. “A Swedish professor [said] we can eat dead people, but that’s not fast enough. So I think your next campaign slogan has to be...

Democratic donors on Wall Street and in big business are preparing to sit out the presidential campaign fundraising cycle — or even back President Donald Trump — if Sen. Elizabeth Warren wins the party’s nomination. In recent weeks, CNBC spoke to several high-dollar Democratic donors and fundraisers in the business community and found that this opinion was becoming widely shared as Warren, an outspoken critic of big banks and corporations, gains momentum against Joe Biden in the 2020 race. “You’re in a box because you’re a Democrat and you’re thinking, ‘I want to help the party, but she’s going to...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) called for the House Judiciary Committee to take action immediately in the wake of reports that President Trump withheld funds to Ukraine and pressured the country’s president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, calling the accusations “an emergency." “Yes, this is an emergency. We don’t have the luxury of time w/ another committee,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Tuesday. “Judiciary has been investigating& putting the pieces together for months. Impeachment belongs there." The freshman lawmaker was responding to conservative commentator and vocal Trump critic Bill Kristol, who said he has suggested a “possible select committee”...

Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called her own party's failure to impeach President Donald Trump a 'national scandal.' The freshman Congresswoman from New York made the remarks in a tweet late on Saturday, ratcheting up pressure on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow impeachment to move forward. 'At this point, the bigger national scandal isn't the president's lawbreaking behavior - it is the Democratic Party's refusal to impeach him for it,' she wrote. Ocasio-Cortez's forceful remarks join the growing clamor from some Democrats demanding that party leaders impeach the president, with the intelligence community whistleblower controversy fueling fresh outrage. In...

President Donald Trump will not consider the House-passed universal background checks bill as part of his proposed gun package, according to a source familiar with the conversation on guns. Trump’s position on the House-passed bill is not exactly a surprise. The White House issued a veto threat against the bill in February. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on Trump repeatedly to bring up the House-passed universal background checks bill. Over the weekend, Pelosi and Schumer issued a statement following a phone call with Trump that anything other than the House-passed bill...

With the Democratic National Committee (DNC) struggling to raise money, Chairman Tom Perez is planning to hold multiple fundraisers in Mexico City this September. The three fundraisers scheduled for the 28th, according to Bloomberg, will range from a student-centric event with a $25 minimum entry fee to a dinner at which tickets could go as high as $15,000. The American economy is the envy of the world and our American workers are the best on the...

According to a recent poll, the politics of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar are hurting the Democratic Party. The poll reveals an overwhelming majority of voters disapprove of the controversial House members who some say have been the face of the party since their election late last year. Conservative media outlets suggest the lawmakers' unpopularity could cost the Democratic Party not only its reign in the House of Representatives, but also blow its chance of taking over the White House in the 2020 election. “A new internal Democratic Party survey polling voter sentiment in crucial swing states revealed that...

Pete Buttigieg has tapped into the New York fundraising scene better than any other 2020 Democratic candidate — and he’ll be back this Labor Day weekend to rake in more big bucks. The South Bend, Indiana, mayor already brought in $3.7 million from New York state — including $2.9 million just from New York City, according to donor data provided by the Center for Public Integrity and analyzed by The Post. He bests all other Democratic White House hopefuls in the Big Apple — by a landslide — including New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who raised $885,000 in...
