Michelle Shocked, Ryan Bingham fire up another huge Wisconsin Capitol protestDean Robbins on Saturday 03/05/2011 4:54 pm, **SNIP** Strumming an acoustic guitar, Bingham wrapped his gravelly voice around Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are a-Changing" and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land," implicitly connecting the current protest to struggles past. You can imagine the crowd's response when he sang this line from the Dylan song: "Come senators and congressmen please heed the call/Don't stand in the doorway don't block up the hall...." **SNIP** Michelle Shocked flew in from Los Angeles to perform at a moment's notice. She poured so...

This is Tabitha Hale, a young conservative activist/original Tea Party organizer/blogger who works for Washington, D.C.-based FreedomWorks. I know her from her great grass-roots work with Smart Girl Politics when the Tea Party movement was just emerging. Today, Big Labor groups took their Grievance March to the offices of FreedomWorks.Among the groups protesting: the Communications Workers of America. They’re one of the heavyweight labor biggies that have received a coveted Obamacare Waiver for Favors. CWA facts here. This is one of the CWA t-shirt-wearing goons who showed up at the protest at FreedomWorks today:And this is what the CWA t-shirt-wearing...
  • Obama Praises ‘Courageous’ Markey (CO-4) for ‘Risky’ Votes

Barack Obama named three Democratic Representatives that stood out for their “courageous” and “risky” votes given the circumstances of their own districts: Cory Gardner’s campaign responded, agreeing with President Obama that Markey’s votes have put her congressional future in jeopardy. “The President may want to spin Representative Markey’s votes as being courageous, but the people of the 4th Congressional District see things differently,” said Rachel Boxer, spokeswoman for the Gardner campaign. “Supporting the President’s healthcare takeover and massive stimulus bill is going to cost Representative Markey her job.”

Greg Smith, 46 from New York, has supported Barack Obama since the now-president announced his bid for the White House in 2007. But three years later the diehard Obamaniac has a sober admission: he’s losing hope. In 2007, the New York Post featured Smith’s story — he was a converted Clinton supporter that left his work as a hotel doorman to campaign for Obama. Obama read the story and asked Smith to introduce him at a campaign event and also tell his story. He did, began campaigning for Obama full-time, and even was present backstage during the Democratic National Convention...
  • Michael Smerconish: In GOP civil war, it's RINOs vs. EIPOs ("Electable In Primaries Only")

It sounds like something out of science fiction. A battle for the Planet GOP is currently underway, pitting the RINOs against the EIPOs. Cue Orson Welles. As the RINOs appear headed for extinction, (political) scientists are left wondering if Planet GOP is itself doomed if its landscape is left only to the EIPOs. The RINOs -- Republicans in name only -- evolved from the likes of H. John Heinz and John Chafee. Until recently, their ranks included Arlen Specter, Mike Castle and, well, me. They were registered in the Republican Party, but not because of a purely ideological connection. Consequently,...

We have been scouring the interwebs for lists of the Republicans who voted for the big three bills that have had destructive consequences for the country. Several searches on Google have gotten us very little on the top searches, only on maybe the second or third page do we find lists. Even then they are somewhat hard to maneuver. So we wanted to compile these lists so you can know which RINOs voted for these atrocious bills. We will start rolling these out over the course of the week and keep them in the lists category for future ease of...

Actress Scarlett Johansson, who campaigned for Barack Obama who mentioned getting e-mails from her, remains in the tank for him. She admitted on Wednesday night's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson that she was amongst those who “drank the Kool-aid” at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner last Saturday where she found him “amazing” and “hilarious.” Monday's USA Today, as I tweeted, quoted Johansson: “I thought (Obama) was hilarious. He has a really dry sense of humor.” When Ferguson's show returned from a commercial break, as the musical bumper ended viewers could hear Johansson telling Ferguson: “Obama was so amazing....

A jury confirmed late Friday what authorities suspected all along — a January 2009 house fire near Lake Lanier was arson. After about three hours of deliberations, jurors found Pamela Morrow Graf, 48, guilty on one count each of first-degree arson and possession of cocaine and marijuana. Graf, who did not testify in her defense, will remain in custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center until her sentencing May 26. Forsyth County Superior Court Chief Judge Jeffrey S. Bagley granted a request from Graf’s attorney, Parker McFarland, to delay sentencing until her father and mother, who were out of town,...

Daytona Beach Shores police have charged a woman with attempted murder after they say she attacked a fellow resident at a condo complex with a Molotov cocktail. Marie John is accused of trying to light a rag stuffed into a beer bottle full of gasoline and trying to throw it at Jason Ward. Ward was able to knock the bottle away and run to his unit, police said. Police said they found several Molotov cocktails and gasoline in the John's unit. John told investigators she had a presidential pardon to make the gas bombs.

The second-in-command at the Justice Department is leaving his post, officials announced Thursday — making him the third top Obama legal official to announce his departure in recent weeks. Deputy Attorney General David W. Ogden will return to private practice in February. White House General Counsel Greg Craig will step down in January, and Phillip Carter, a top Defense Department deputy assistant secretary dealing with detainee issues, has already left. Ogden, who managed the civil division during the Clinton administration, headed up President Barack Obama’s transition into office last year. In a statement, Ogden said that his tenure in the...

President Bush favored cap and trade, one of this former speechwriters claims in a new book. In fact, Matt Latimer writes in "Speechless," the President actually ENDORSED the policy in a speech, but no one in the press could figure out what he meant. Cap-and-trade, which would put a limit on businesses' carbon emissions, barely passed the House this year but has yet to make headway in the Senate. Most Republicans are vocally opposed to it.

I was embarrassed for my country when many Americans let the fear of terrorism turn them into cringing cowards, willing to give up our basic civil liberties for the illusion of safety, ignoring how we are 200 times more likely to die in our automobile than in a terrorist attack on our soil. I am equally embarrassed today. Many of my fellow Americans have let themselves be manipulated by corporate interests and ratings-hungry media. They have become frightened, angry, and unable to cooperate to form a more perfect union. Why do so many Americans have so little faith in our...

I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would. I voted Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. I voted Democrat because when we pull out of...

To those out there desperately trying to paste together scraps of enthusiasm by singing the poetic praises of VP Dick Cheney, please don’t expect the average conservative out in flyover country to join your little Republican booster club. Certainly, there is not much to disagree with in what the former VP says. No doubt, we’re “less safe” under Obama. Pres Obama’s administration is obviously lowering all of our defenses. Opening us wide to all manner of political, economic and violent terror attacks. So why does the GOP Base continue to rapidly shrink? (now down to 27% - Gallup) Why is...

Anyone notice how CNBC's Jim Cramer ripped Obama's policy initiatives, expressing dismay at how Obama was continually screwing up in regards to fixing the financial mess, and how Jon Stewart takes Jim Cramer to task after the fact? Where was Jon Stewart before Jim Cramer ripped Obama's policy initiatives? And where was Jon Stewart in regards to how Barney Frank, the Banking Queen, and Chris Dodd did more than their fair share of helping to screw the economy up? I'm no fan of Jim Cramer, but I really doubt Jon Stewart's sincerity in this matter.

Prof. Douglas Kmiec, Mark Shea and Thomas Peters Denver, Jan 14, 2009 / 06:02 am (CNA).- Several leading Catholic bloggers have responded to Doug Kmiec’s criticism of “right-wing Catholic bloggers” whom he characterized as “online tormenters” who personally attacked him, distorted his position, and potentially poisoned the relationship between the Holy See and the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama. Kmiec, a law professor and a prominent pro-life Catholic supporter of the pro-abortion rights President-elect Obama, had written his essay “A Tangled Web: The Election & the Blogosphere” for Commonweal Magazine. In it, he assailed the “right-wing Catholic blogosphere”...
