After heading into Love Park Community Center, she was told by those working that she had already cast her ballot during the early voting period. HPD Sergeant Harold Preston was killed in the line of duty today. Sgt. Preston has been with the Houston Police Department for 41-years and was due to retire at year-end. Sgt. Harold Preston was a 41 year veteran of the Houston Police Department. He was the caretaker for his elderly parents. 65 years old, he was just a few weeks away from retirement. He was shot and killed Tuesday morning in the line of duty. Preston was shot by Elmer Manzano, an illegal alien and convicted felon with multiple priors. In October 1994, Manzano was arrested for the unlawful carrying of a firearm in Dallas County. A Baytown police officer was indicted Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of Pamela Turner last year. A Harris County grand jury indicted Officer Juan Delacruz on a charge of first-degree aggravated assault by a public servant in the May 13, 2019, shooting. According to investigators, Delacruz encountered Turner, 44, while on patrol and knew that she had warrants out for her arrest. Turner resisted arrest and was able to get hold of Delacruz’s Taser and shock him with it, investigators said. Investigators said that was when Delacruz fired, killing Turner.
