Barbers gathered outside the Michigan state capitol this week to give free haircuts in defiance of the state’s stay-at-home restrictions. Nearly 400 people attended the demonstration on Wednesday. “Operation Haircut” was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition. Protesters have accused Governor Gretchen Whitmer of “killing small businesses” and called the restrictions overbearing. According to Michigan state police, at least three of the barbers were given citations for disorderly conduct.

"This is about our governor overreaching, it feels tyrannical what we are living under, here in Michigan right now," said Meshawn Maddock. Maddock of the Michigan Conservative Coalition expressed her frustration with the governor's extended stay at home order. The group, which first helped organize Operation Gridlock where hundreds of people caused traffic jams near the Capitol chanting "Open up Michigan" is now organizing Operation Haircut. LANSING, MI -- The Michigan Conservative Coalition on Friday announced plans for a protest outside the Michigan State Capitol next week that will feature barbers giving away free haircuts after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders aiming to stop the spread of COVID-19 closed barbershops, salons and other businesses. The protest is planned for May 20 from noon to 3 p.m. outside the Capitol.
