A 49-year-old man died from his injuries after he was shot by a homeowner during a confrontation Monday morning, police said. The homeowner told police he heard a noise coming from his detached garage near 400 North and 800 West about 7 a.m., according to Orem Police Lt. Craig Martinez. Less than three months after his arrest, former UVSC student Kidus Chane Yohannes has been declared mentally competent to stand criminal trial. A 4th District Judge made the decision on Thursday, Sept. 6. A preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 20.
