A few of you sent me this video, published to Youtube today, of the weekend overpass protests, this one in St. Charles, Missouri. I’m still trying to figure out what laws these protesters broke. While I wasn’t there, it seems to me the protesters were standing on public ground, not in traffic, therefor not impeding traffic. Having organized and attended many protests myself — and having worked with local law enforcement to make sure regulations (even mindlessly unnecessary ones) are met, so long as a protester isn’t standing in traffic, there isn’t an issue. Am I missing something here? Don’t...

“The Patriot Wave” will sweep the country demanding that Congress impeaches President Barack Obama, James Neighbors, National Coordinator and Founder of a movement called Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment, announced today. He said there will be nationwide overpass protests this summer in July and August. The movement is inspired by a similar protest earlier this month in California. Protestors in Carlsbad, California made news a couple weeks ago holding a protest on a nearby highway overpass on Interstate 5 on June 8. The protesters held up a variety of “Impeach Obama” signs and the demonstration slowed down southbound traffic on the...

An “out of place” flatbed truck left under a tunnel near Van Nuys Airport raised enough concern for the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad to deploy investigators Thursday evening. In addition, police said the suspicious truck also had three containers. Police noticed the flatbed truck just after 6 p.m. parked under a tunnel on Sherman Way at Hayvenhurst Avenue, said Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department. “It was an unintended truck parked under a tunnel…and runways from the Van Nuys airport run over that tunnel,” Faden said. “The truck just looked out of place, so we...

OZARK, Mo. -- A family wants answers about what happened to their son that left him hospitalized. Early Saturday morning, police found Mace Hutchinson, 16, underneath the Highway F overpass over U.S. 65. Mace ended up in intensive care at a hospital. His parents believe the actions of Ozark police officers contributed to his injuries and slowed doctors’ abilities to speed his recovery. “We called the police. My wife was afraid he was going to get ran over or hit,” said witness Doug Messersmith. Messersmith and his wife were the last known people to see 16-year-old boy walking, shortly before...

An inspector from Transport Quebec, the province's transportation ministry, was sent to the site about 30 minutes before the...

"Highway blogs" come, go quickly It takes only a bedsheet and 18-gauge wire for Bruce Macdonald to stir road rage in some motorists. For eight months the Cambridge lawyer has been stringing homemade banners from highway overpasses, including those crossing Interstate 93 and Route 128. His neatly painted messages usually take short jabs at the Bush administration or the war in Iraq. Like noxious fumes and traffic snarls, a well-placed road sign can't be ignored by a driver, he said. Tens of thousands of cars can stream beneath an ``Impeach" or ``U.S. Out of Iraq" banner before it is ripped...

LIVONIA, Mich. (AP) -- A dog apparently fell from a freeway overpass and crashed through a car windshield, fatally injuring the driver, police said Thursday. Charles G. Jetchick, 81, died Wednesday of injuries suffered in the accident over the weekend in suburban Detroit. A passenger suffered minor injuries. Investigators do not believe the 60- to 70-pound Labrador retriever was thrown, but rather fell by while trying to avoid a car, State Police Sgt. Michael A. Shaw said. Police questioned the dog's owner. The dog died after a fall of about 16 feet. Despite his injuries, Jetchick was able to steer...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Will Adams November 18, 2005 202.226.6997 Tancredo Blasts Colorado’s ‘Bridge for Nobody’ Tancredo Says Animal Bridge Shows Democrats’ Hypocrisy on Budget Rhetoric WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) blasted Colorado’s “vegetated wildlife overpass” as an egregious example of the Democrats’ pork-barrel spending. The $500,000 down payment on the nearly $5 million overpass, which was approved as part of the Transportation Appropriations bill today, will, apparently, serve animals who want to cross over I-70 near Vail. “We’ve all heard of the ‘bridge to nowhere’ that was stripped from the transportation bill today. At least that bridge...
