That's how, on today's Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough described yesterday's special election in New York's 3rd district, won by the Democrat, Tom Suozzi, who represented the district from 2017 to 2023, and so was the virtual incumbent in the race. He won the district in 2018 by 59-41 percent, and in 2020 by 56-43. The election was held to fill the seat vacated by serial fabulist Republican George Santos, only the third person since the Civil War to be expelled from the House. Democrat Tom Suozzi has won the New York special election to the U.S. House, according to an AP race call. Suozzi will serve out the remainder of the term for former GOP Rep. George Santos, who was expelled from the House last year. The victory further narrows the already razor-thin majority for Republicans in the House. Meghan Markle will not be attending Prince Philip's funeral alongside her husband, Prince Harry, who plans to attend. On Saturday, one day after the Duke of Edinburgh's death, Buckingham Palace officials announced a private funeral will be held at Windsor Castle on April 17. The palace said Philip took part in planning his funeral and the focus on family was in accordance with his wishes. The 99-year-old duke died at the age of 99.
