The U.S. federal prison system was placed on lockdown nationwide following a deadly incident at a Texas prison, officials said Monday. “Multiple inmates were observed fighting at the United States Penitentiary Beaumont” in Texas, said the Federal Bureau of Prisons in a news release. Prison staff then “immediately secured the area” but found inmate Guillermo Riojas and inmate Andrew Pineda with life-threatening injuries, prison officials said. They were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were both pronounced dead, the bureau said. Two days ago half-dozen illegal aliens suspected of stealing wildfire relief supplies from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Now, this: Police have arrested a man in Los Angeles after witnesses say they saw him lighting a fire on a hillside. Authorities say 41-year-old Catalino Pineda was seen starting a fire in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday and then walking away. Witnesses alerted authorities and followed the man to a nearby restaurant where police arrested him. Pineda was booked for investigation of arson. Two teenagers were arrested Saturday in the theft of a laptop and hard drive containing sensitive data on up to 26.5 million veterans and military personnel, authorities said. The government-owned equipment was stolen May 3 during a burglary at the Maryland home of a Veterans Affairs employee. The laptop and hard drive were turned into the FBI June 28 by an unidentified person in response to a $50,000 reward offer.
