When will it end? Video catches Pokemon Go player driving his SUV into a parked police car In a few years, or even in a few months, we’ll probably see Psychologists examine and study the unprecedented level of gaming addiction we’ve seen from Pokemon Go players over the past few weeks. If you thought Candy Crush was bad, well, Pokemon Go takes things to an entirely new level. In recent weeks, we’ve seen stories of Pokemon Go players crashing cars, getting shot at, falling off cliffs, aimlessly wandering into traffic and even creating Walking Dead-style stampedes in cities across the...

This year, February 27, Pokémon (pocket monster) turned 20. It was created by Japanese game designer Satoshi Tajiri for Nintendo as a video game for the old Gameboy handheld video game platform. My sons still own theirs. It was introduced to the United States in 1998. Nintendo was quick to capitalize on its popularity. The video game soon spawned a celebrated trading card game, books, movies and a television series. The tag line of Pokémon is: “Gotta Catch Em All.” Since then, at least a few of the Pokémon characters have gained international recognition. One of the most recognized characters,...

Dr. Khlifa Al-Makhrazi. The head of the Family Consultative Council in Dubai, speaking on Sky News Arabia TV, discussed the new Pokémon Go rage. Dr. Al-Makhrazi declared that playing this game is prohibited, in keeping with a recent fatwa by Al-Azhar and by "some jurisprudents." He further explained that Pokémon Go is "genuinely and directly" linked to Darwinism and to the theory of evolution. He concluded by saying that anybody playing the game is a spy. The interview aired on July 14

Marxists of the 21st century (not an oxymoron; they exist) have identified a new threat to the glorious proletariat revolution: PokemonGo. Of course, this is par for the course. The Soviet Union banned The Lord of the Rings. Leftist hero (and murderous thug) Che Guevara worked to suppress Jazz music in communist Cuba. The People's Republic of China censored Back to the Future because the regime thought that time travel undermined law and order. And on and on. Now Marxist sympathizers at the socialist magazine Jacobin think the new Pokemon-themed iPhone app—which is currently being enjoyed by millions of people...

Pokémon Go is luring players to landmarks like the 9/11 Memorial and the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC — sparking outrage from people who think it’s insensitive. The downtown Manhattan memorial is filled with “PokeStops” — landmarks highlighted by a floating blue cube that gives gamers free items to catch Pokemon — including both reflecting pools, the “This City’s Bravest” plaque and the Survivor Tree. Pokémon Go is sweeping the nation, and along with its growing popularity is a steady stream of bizarre news stories and personal anecdotes of near-death experiences. First there was the Australian police warning users not to physically enter the police station when collecting items, and earlier today Washington's Department of Transportation warned against "pokemoning" while driving. The mobile game's dedicated subreddit is also filling up with reports of personal injury incurred while exploring the real world for digital creatures. Now, a teenager has discovered a dead body floating in her hometown river. Shayla Wiggins, a 19-year-old Riverton, Wyoming resident, discovered...

An alleged plot to inflict violence at the Pokemon World Championship was foiled after security officers at the venue where the event was being held alerted the Boston Police Department to a series of threats posted on social media, authorities said. James Stumbo, 27, and Kevin Norton, 18, both of Iowa, had no prior criminal history before they were arraigned today. They face numerous gun charges after police found weapons in their car parked outside a convention center in Boston. Norton walked into court wearing a camouflage hunting t-shirt; Stumbo wore a grey shirt. Both are also charged with making...

The Pokémon Plot: How One Cartoon Inspired the Army to Dream Up a Seizure Gun In 1998, a secret Army intelligence analysis suggested a new way to take out enemies: blast them with electromagnetic energy until their brains overload and they start to convulse. Amazingly, it was an idea inspired by a Pokemon episode. Application of "electromagnetic pulses" could force neurons to all fire at once, causing a "disruption of voluntary muscle control," reads a description of a proposed seizure weapon, contained in a declassified document from the Army's National Ground Intelligence Center. "It is thought by using a method...

You're not the only one unhappy about the Olympic mascots, collectively known as the Fuwa. If the Beijing Olympics' five cuddly mascots go down in history as a dud, their creator wants no part of the blame. After China's Olympics organizers gave him the assignment, folk artist Han Meilin initially sketched out five children representing the traditional Chinese elements of fire, wood, water, gold and earth. Then the bureaucrats got involved. "There had to be a panda, even though you'd think the public would have had enough of them," says the 72-year-old artist. Alas, mankind will never get enough of...

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...
