House lawmakers announced that they would hold a public hearing in the “next phase” of their impeachment inquiry into President Biden after his son Hunter Biden provided testimony on Wednesday. “I think that the public hearing hopefully will clear up some discrepancies between some of the statements that were made between some of the associates and what we heard today,” said House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer, the Kentucky Republican leading the impeachment inquiry.Mr. Comer said the president’s son provided contradictory statements.“So, this impeachment inquiry will now go to the next phase, which will be a public hearing,”...

Wisconsin lawmakers this week will hold a public hearing on alleged election irregularities. The state Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections hearing will take place on Dec. 11 at the Wisconsin State Capitol. It will deal with the investigation into “numerous irregularities with the 2020 general election,” Rep. Ron Tusler, a Republican who chairs the committee, said in a statement. “The goal of the ongoing investigation is transparency. Wisconsin voters deserve fair and accurately counted elections. I want you to know that their vote counted,” he said. The hearing will include testimony from eyewitnesses, experts, and elections officials. Assembly Speaker...

Texas open carry is moving again. Because the licensed open carry bill had an amendment added in the House, the process in the Senate needs to be repeated. The amendment seems to be simple common sense. Police may not harass open carriers unless there is a crime involved. Stopping them to check on a license is not allowed, just the same way that automobile drivers may not be stopped simply to check on their license. Texas is only one of six states that does not allow the open carry of modern handguns in most public locations. In the Senate,...

Thanks to an extended comment deadline, almost three weeks remain for people to let their feelings be known about the Trans-Texas Corridor. The most recent study of the proposal, which includes a stretch in Fort Bend County, must be approved by the federal government for the Texas Department of Transportation to proceed with planning and, eventually, construction. TxDOT and the Federal Highway Administration have extended their formal comment period through April 18. During this time, individuals are encouraged to submit written comments on either the project itself or what is called the Draft Environmental Impact Study (DEIS), which is a...

A so-called “NAFTA Superhighway†earned support from the city’s mayor and discussion among residents Monday during a public hearing on the Texas Department of Transportation’s I-69 project. TxDOT held a public hearing at the Brownsville Events Center Monday to explain the progress of the Trans-Texas Corridor, a future segment of Highway I-69, which will link the U.S.-Mexico border to the U.S.-Canada border. After a short presentation, the floor was open for comments. Among the local politicians, college students and retirees at the hearing there was a wide range of opinion on the project. According to Mario Jorge, district engineer for...

t was a quick-and-dirty job, but somebody had to do it. The "it" in this case was a cost comparison between expanding Interstate 35 beyond six lanes and building the proposed Trans-Texas Corridor twin to I-35. The "somebody" was HNTB Corp., which is serving as the Texas Department of Transportation's general engineering consultant on the I-35 corridor project. It was hired to do the comparison after skeptical Texas senators asked questions at a March 1 hearing. It doesn't take a doctorate in ethics to divine that HNTB, which produced a 101-page report plus hernia-inducing exhibits in just three weeks, might...
