A teenage girl from Argentina has gone into a coma while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, with doctors pointing to a life-threatening diabetic condition — even though her family says she has no history of diabetes. Candela Saccone, 15, had been scheduled to return home from Punta Cana on June 19 after traveling there earlier in the week, but she reportedly got sick that morning. Her mother, Natalia Knetch, told CNN’s Spanish-language news channel that she rushed the teen — who was displaying symptoms of dizziness, dehydration and vomiting — to a local medical center, where doctors diagnosed her with...

Jessica Mazzone is recovering from operation by Dr. John Boockvar. Writhing in pain inside a dilapidated hospital in the Dominican Republic, Brooklyn native Jessica Mazzone didn't think she'd ever walk again. The 28-year-old flight attendant had fallen three stories from a hotel balcony on the eastern tip of the island, snapping her spine and shattering her left leg. Local doctors insisted they had to operate on her at the hospital. A journey to the U.S. would almost certainly leave her paralyzed, Mazzone was told. We are planning a vacation in the Caribbean this January or February. Prices in Mexico for the all-inclusives are so expensive, we started looking at Punta Cana or Puerto Plata in the DR.If you have been there, which one? What we enjoy most is laying around a pool or beach and snorkeling, sailing, etc. The place needs to be clean and the food safe, good quality and variety. We do not want to go to a fancy place. A couple of the places we are looking at are the Gran Ventana Resort and the Riu Bachata, both in PP. Any...
