The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross warned Wednesday “an enormous level of suffering” awaits the world in 2023 with famine spreading. Mirjana Spoljaric, who took over at the ICRC in October, told a Geneva press conference: “We expect an enormous level of suffering. “As the world is trending at the moment we don’t see any easing of the humanitarian pressures, they will be immense potentially,” she said.

Russia has invited experts from the United Nations and the Red Cross to probe the deaths of dozens of Ukrainian prisoners in a jail held by Moscow-backed separatists, the defence ministry said on Sunday. In a statement, the ministry said it was acting "in the interests of conducting an objective investigation" into what it called an attack on the jail earlier in the week. The separatists put the death toll at 53 and accused Kyiv of hitting the prison with rockets.

The International Committee of the Red Cross warns hundreds of millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa are going hungry due to conflict, climate shocks, and rising food prices triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The ICRC warns Africa’s food crisis is set to worsen. It says conflict and armed violence, failing harvests due to years of drought, and increases in food and other commodity prices are driving more people into extreme poverty and hunger. A recent U.N. assessment estimates 346 million people on the continent face severe food insecurity, meaning one-quarter of the population does not have enough to eat....

all information on the number and personal details of the Ukrainian fighters who left the steel plant will remain confidential and will not be made public, the spokesperson said. “We will not share publicly the lists or names of people we visited, or those who we visit in the future,” she said. Hodeib made the remarks when asked how many Ukrainian soldiers from Azovstal, including those wounded, the ICRC has registered so far and whether their lists will be published, a figure that is unknown so far.

Geneva (ICRC) - An International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) team that had been on its way to Mariupol on Friday to facilitate the safe passage of civilians had to return to Zaporizhzhia after arrangements and conditions made it impossible to proceed. The ICRC team, which consists of three vehicles and nine personnel, did not reach Mariupol or facilitate the safe passage of civilians today. They will try again on Saturday to facilitate the safe passage of civilians from Mariupol. For the operation to succeed, it is critical that the parties respect the agreements and provide the necessary conditions...

The vaccine wipes out the immune system. pic.twitter.com/O9hiUObWz3 — bristolblues (@BristolBlues32) August 29, 2021 Anyone who has received their Vaccine can not donate convalescent plasma to other Covid patients. The Vaccine wipes out natural Covid antibodies making the convalescent plasma ineffective for treatment. Once people are vaccinated, they cannot donate plasma. The vaccine causes spike antibodies, and for convalescent plasma, they need nucleocapsid antibodies. PHOENIX – While it’s promising to see people getting vaccinated for COVID-19, a new problem that blood banks face is less convalescent plasma donations. The reason why: after you get the vaccine, you cannot donate plasma....

A nurse in Germany is reportedly suspected of injecting thousands of patients with a fake coronavirus vaccine, prompting authorities to urge more than 8,000 people to get an additional shot. Authorities suspect an unnamed Red Cross nurse injected about 8,600 patients in Friesland in northern Germany with saline solution in early spring, a time where a majority of patients receiving their vaccines were among the elderly population, Reuters reported. Local councilor Sven Ambrosy said he is "totally shocked by this episode."

“ individuals who have received a COVID-19 vaccine are not able to donate convalescent plasma with the Red Cross.” Who needs convalescent plasma? Do those afflicted with Covid need this?

I gave blood a couples of months ago. The Red Cross tests your blood for CCP-1984 antibodies. I tested positive. My wife and I had the worst plague of our lives in January of last year (2020). Took weeks to clear out our lungs. She works in the economics department of the local university with almost all Chinese grad students who had just returned from China. I am sure she got it from them and brought it home. We survived it without even seeing a doctor or taking any medications. We survived it just fine, and we are not spring...

Quote from the video; "The Red Cross says anyone who has received their vaccine cannot donate convalescent plasma to help other Covid-19 patients in hospitals. That plasma is made up of antibodies from people who have recovered from the virus, but the vaccine wipes out those antibodies, making the convalescent plasma ineffective in treating other Covid-19 patients." The American Red Cross confirmed to Reuters that they are allowing people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine to donate plasma (the liquid component in blood), contrary to claims on social media that this plasma is not being accepted because the vaccine is “so untested”. The confusion may have arisen over the Red Cross’ policy on convalescent plasma, meaning plasma that has COVID-19 antibodies after recent infection and can be used as a treatment for COVID-19 infection. The American Red Cross’ current policy is to only accept convalescent plasma donations from people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have not...

Across the country, the American Red Cross is finding that about one in every five unvaccinated person donating blood has antibodies for COVID-19. That number matches up with southern states. A year into the pandemic, Sherri McKinney with the American Red Cross says they saw higher donations than normal for the wintertime. "Folks are still going out and they’re still donating blood,” she said. “Anyone who does come into the American Red Cross does get tested for the COVID antibodies. And folks in Tennessee, we’re having about a six to seven percent positive rate for COVID antibody testing from donors.”...

Saw online that the Red Cross will give free antibody test to those who donate blood. Seven to 10 day turnaround. Note, however, that the test used is Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (lgG), which has one of the lowest sensitivities (just 90%) but is 100% specific. That is, if you test positive, the result is extremely likely to be correct, but if you test negative, there is slight chance the test is wrong, i.e., antibodies are present but at levels below the test's threshold for detection, or the test did not recognize those antibodies.

Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. will halt monetary contributions to the World Health Organization while the administration reviews the mistakes it made managing the pandemic. 13 hrs ago Brown scores in Pats debut, almost wrecks himself after Dem candidates call for Kavanaugh's impeachment KABUL (Reuters) - The Taliban on Sunday revoked their ban on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan and gave a guarantee of security for its staff doing humanitarian work in areas under their control. Taliban leaders imposed a ban on the ICRC and the World Health Organization (WHO) in April saying the organizations were carrying out "suspicious" activities during vaccinations campaigns and not sticking to their declared missions. "The Islamic Emirate restores the former security guarantees to ICRC...

More than 1,000 people were feared dead in Mozambique four days after a cyclone slammed into the country, submerging entire villages and leaving bodies floating in the floodwaters, the nation's president said. "It is a real disaster of great proportions," President Filipe Nyusi said. Cyclone Idai could prove to be the deadliest storm in generations to hit the impoverished southeast African country of 30 million people. It struck Beira, an Indian Ocean port city of a half-million people, late Thursday and then moved inland to Zimbabwe and Malawi with strong winds and heavy rain. But it took days for the...

First Lady Melania Trump shined bright on Tuesday as she assembled care packages with the Red Cross for American troops and service members stationed overseas. Mrs. Trump embraced the families of American troops in a patriotic ensemble of entirely red, white, and blue — how appropriate!
