“The Ascension: Past, Present, and Future” (Ephesians 1:15-23) Today we’re having church on a Thursday. That’s because we’re celebrating the Ascension of Our Lord, a major festival in the church year that always falls on a Thursday. And that’s because the event it celebrates came forty days after Easter. It was that marvelous occasion when our Lord Jesus Christ, after his resurrection, ascended into heaven. And tonight we will see that this great event connects, ties together, the past, the present, and the future work of Christ. Because it does, our Lord’s ascension has great importance for us, for our...

Perry’s talents earned her mansions. Surely the Christian thing to do would be to let the sisters spend their last years on Earth in their own convent Though it came to pass with zero mainstream or social media notice, Sister Rita Callanan’s heartfelt plea to Pope Francis to save the Los Angeles Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary convent from pop star Katy Perry fell on deaf ears. Sister Callanan was last in the news when she told Britain’s Daily Mail that she was appealing directly to Pope Francis to intervene in her 3-year old legal battle with Perry...

By now almost everyone has heard about the escalating violence in London under its Muslim mayor, Sidiq Khan. If you aren't being stabbed to death in the UK's biggest and most important city, you risk having acid thrown in your face by one of the gangsters being welcomed by what is essentially the West's largest sanctuary city. A new report by the London Times confirms that death by the blade is not ravaging London but is spreading outward "from the cities to the suburbs to the shires." ['County Lines' Drug Gangs Spread Knife Crime Epidemic to the Shires, The Times, May 6,...

“The Spirit and the Water and the Blood” (1 John 5:1-8)Our Epistle today from First John includes a section that at first glance may seem a little puzzling. But when we look at it a little more closely, we’ll see how it really does make sense. Indeed, it makes quite clear the very heart of our faith and salvation. The passage in question is 1 John 5:6-8, as follows: “This is he who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because...
  • Trail Life Prays for our Nation

Trailmen from OR-1531 took part in the 67th observance of the National Day of Prayer during the morning Mass at St. Joseph. It was fitting that today was the Feast of Saints Phillip and James, Apostles. The readings themselves emphasized the evangelical work of the Apostles in early Church that we continue as Trailmen. The first reading, from 1 Cor 15, I am reminding you, brothers and sisters, of the Gospel I preached to you, which you indeed received and in which you also stand.

An important part of membership into Trail Life is internalizing the oath: On my honor, I will do my best To serve God and my country; To respect authority; To be a good steward of creation; And to treat others as I want to be treated. On my honor… Today, many people equate “honor” with fame, awards, and recognition from the world. However, for the Trailman, honor is understood
  • Responsibility to the poor: Government or Church? Part I

What is the duty of the Church concerning poverty? This is one of those areas where the Church has unfortunately surrendered its influence by either adopting the mission of the government or embracing the worldview of the culture, neither of which is consistent with what the Bible teaches. The Bible, in fact, speaks very plainly about the poor. And since the duty of the Church is to preserve knowledge of God, it is incumbent upon us to correct misunderstandings regarding the proper role of God’s people in this and other areas. In so doing, we preserve a free and civil...

A new study from the Public Religion Research Institute reveals just how badly social conservatives are losing the battle over marriage and sexuality. Not only do two-thirds of Americans polled support so-called gay marriage, but even among evangelicals, support is rapidly growing. The majority of evangelical youth now reject Christ’s teaching on the subject. Outcomes like this surprise too many of us because we underestimate both the power of rhetoric and the extent to which conservatives willingly submit ourselves and our children to it. Anyone who is competent in the art of rhetoric knows the value of “frame,” deliberately using the...

Western banking met Islam many decades ago, but only began to sleep with her a few years ago. Since then, it is has become a wanton and open affair. The implications for the West, and especially for the U.S., are staggering. Because all Islamic banking products must be created and offered according to strict Sharia law, global banks are doing for Islam what it could never do on its own: Give legitimacy to Sharia and infiltrate it into the fabric of Western society.

Hat Tip: Michael Bruno "Natural Causes" By Barbara Ehrenreich. Twelve; 210 pages. A FEW years ago Barbara Ehrenreich stopped going for check-ups. The decision to forgo cancer screenings and physical exams has set her apart from her friends, whose calendars are full of doctors’ appointments and whose cupboards are crammed with supplements and medicines. But as the American writer, who is 76, explains in “Natural Causes”, once she realised she was “old enough to die”, there was no good reason to live a “medicalised life”. Her remaining time is “too precious to spend in windowless waiting rooms.” Ms Ehrenreich is...

Zeid is not the voice of the people of true democracies such as Israel and the United States. He is nothing more than an unaccountable UN bureaucrat whose hypocritical unsolicited opinions on “international law” are of no consequence United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein accused Israel of using “excessive force” in dealing with Hamas-led demonstrations near and along the border fence in Gaza. “Every week, we witness instances of use of lethal force against unarmed demonstrators,” Zeid said last Friday. He claimed, without any first-hand knowledge of actual conditions on the ground, that many of...

“Abide in the Vine” (John 15:1-8) “Stay where you are!” “Don’t move!” These commands sound rather restrictive. These imperatives can sound oppressive and limiting, like we’re being told what to do, and it’s to not to do anything. The idea of remaining where you are sounds kind of boring, like we’re stuck in a rut. But when it comes to the Christian life, nothing could be further from the truth. Far from being dull and lifeless, for the Christian, remaining where you are--that is, “abiding in the vine,” remaining connected to Christ--is dynamic, active, and very productive. And so our...

Let your every morning prayer be the one that says: “Thank You Father, for Your Creation” It was only the tiniest of sparrows, but there it lay on the deck, stunned after flying into the thick glass of the window. After a few moments, it somehow struggled to its tiny feet, wobbly, then remaining stock still for 15 minutes that seemed like an eternity. It stood there as though cast in concrete, not moving a thing. Everything in this household, including pet dog, Yankee was held in suspense. We didn’t want small-dog-big-bark balustrade Yankee to frighten the little bird out...

As long as the world's fastest-growing religious-political system -- now encompassing one-fifth of the world's population – considers digital currency haram, or forbidden, it is unlikely that such a system would gain widespread global acceptance. But what if cyrptocurrencies now considered haram by Muslim leaders could be made halal, or acceptable, under Sharia law? And what if I told you efforts are underway to do exactly that?

I live right outside the city of Newnan, Georgia, and my hometown became a media spectacle this past Saturday, April 21. Antifa sent us busloads of anarchists, Marxists and common criminals, who took to the streets with naïve college students and some well-intentioned locals. They came to protest a rally by a small band of neo-Nazis from the National Socialist Movement, which had been granted a permit by the city to hold a rally in the Greenville Street Park.

"Father!" I said, "I've got nothing, here!" I had all sorts of material available for a Sunday morning story. And I decided it was time for another personal piece about the author’s ongoing weird life. I am ecstatic to report that I have received several letters from people who follow my writing. I guess I can call them ‘followers’ - and they have informed me that I have a following! Before I had been writing for a while, I had no following as a writer. As a portrait-painting and wildlife artist, I still have quite a following. But, back when...

“The Love That Lays Down Its Life” (1 John 3:16-24) “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.” What a beautiful hymn to sing on this day in the church year known as “Good Shepherd Sunday”! How we need a good shepherd to lead and guard and guide us! That’s why we follow Jesus and listen to his voice. We sing his praises, because of his great love for us. He loved us so much that he laid down his life for his sheep. Today we want to see what the results are of Christ laying down his life for us....
