In November of 2008, I was invited to Chicago to watch the election returns at Grant Park and be there with Barack Obama as he became the first African American ever elected U.S. president. I respectfully declined. Instead I spent election night in Atlanta, leading National Action Network’s (NAN) watch night service, similar to the New Year’s Eve service and countdown that we do every year. A half-century ago King led a movement — a movement that was predicated upon securing voting rights, job opportunities, fair housing, educational opportunities, an end to racial discrimination and ending income inequality. Today, in...

It’s not unusual for Al Sharpton to have his entanglements with the English language. His “resist we much” moment from 2011 has become a cult classic. But on his MSNBC show this morning, there was something different about Sharpton’s stumbles. It wasn’t just his repeated flubbing of the name of rapper Meek Mill’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina. It was the super-slow cadence with which Sharpton spoke. For those old enough to remember, think 78RPM record played at 45. Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Jesus: social justice warrior? Apparently so, if you believe Jacqui Lewis, senior minister of the very liberal Middle Collegiate Church in NYC. During her appearance on Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show this morning, Lewis described Jesus as a “brown-skinned Palestinian man who understood he needed to resist.” The notion that Jesus was Palestinian has been thoroughly debunked. He was Jewish, after all. But that hasn’t stopped anti-Semites like Barack Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, from also making the claim. View the video here.

Two California women have choreographed an anti-Trump aerobics class. “Resistance takes endurance,” says artist Liat Berdugo. “And aerobics is also something that builds your endurance.” Berdugo and her partner Margaret McCarthy were recently profiled in a video by Fusion. “We’re looking to, like, really, really physicalize this current moment in the political climate and to respond to it, to react to it, to embody it, to make fun of it,” explains Berdugo. Their routine includes moves to chants “F* Mar-a-Lago”, “Don’t buy Ivanka shoes!”, and “I believe in science!” Each move involves a red tie as an aerobics prop. Other...

Rev. Al Sharpton is not happy with what he perceives as the White House's special treatment of President Trump's daughter. . . . "Giving a office on the West Wing of Ivanka Trump, somebody explain to me how you can give security clearance, access to classified material, and a office to somebody that don't have a title or job?" Sharpton said. "They say now she ain't got no title. She ain't got no role. We ain't payin' her no money. But she can see everything classified."

Al Sharpton said today that he is "on high alert" for the grand jury decision in the case of Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Sharpton said that his civil rights group have been planning for "vigils and non-violent demonstrations" when the Ferguson grand jury hands down its ruling. "I have pledged to the mother and father of Michael Brown that I will be there with them when the decision is announced," Sharpton said at a press conference today.

As a Ohioan it has come to my attention that John "the boner" Boehner is being challenged in the up coming primary election. His challenger is a conservative by the name of Eric Gurr. Mr. Gurr has stated that he supports the Tea Party`s stance on limited Constitutional Government. In light of the past and current legislative actions of Old` "Boner", you may consider looking his challenger over and possibly supporting him.

Rev. Al Sharpton on the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" on Wednesday: "So a really good Christmas message is to really emphasize healthcare and health insurance among our families, your child, your niece, your nephew, particularly young people that think they are invincible, let them know they are not, and the time is now to sign up. That's a real Christmas message and it's something that gives some reason for the season other than toys"

AL SHARPTON: It goes to the Justice Department. Clearly there are grounds for civil rights charges here. The mother and father of Trayvon Martin and I, with their lawyers, met with the U.S. attorney in Florida the day I went down there to organize the first national rally there. And we always said there would be a plan B, but there needed to be a plan A. There would never have been protests if there had been an arrest and if the police department there did what it was supposed to do." (Meet the Press, July 14, 2013)

On Wednesday's PoliticsNation show, MSNBC host Al Sharpton charged that Republicans are waging a "full-scale war against the poor" because of GOP efforts to reform the food stamp program, and went on to assert that "This party will stop at nothing to tear down the poor. Just as they have time and time again." With the words "The Hunger Shames" in the background, the MSNBC host began the show: Tonight's lead, the "hunger shames." The GOP has been called scary, narrow-minded, out of touch. And yet again today they lived up to their reputation. Fresh off of voting to roll...

On Monday's PoliticsNation show on MSNBC, host Al Sharpton bristled at former Vice President Cheney recently attacking President Obama's "credibility" as the MSNBC host repeated discredited assertions that Cheney had claimed Saddam Hussein was involved in the 9/11 attacks. Sharpton and MSNBC contributor Patrick Murphy, formerly a Democratic Congressman from Pennsylvania, rehashed liberal charges that the former Vice President lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. After a soundbite of Cheney, Sharpton responded: Really, Dick Cheney. He thinks the President is not credible. Oh, the irony. The same Dick Cheney who told us that Iraq had WMDs, who said...

The Rev. Al Sharpton’s nonprofit paid him nearly $242,000 — even as it carried $1.6 million in debt, according to documents obtained by The Post. In all, the controversial activist and his empire, including the National Action Network and two for-profit companies, were $5.3 million in the red, public records show. Most of NAN’s money woes stemmed from more than $880,000 in unpaid federal payroll taxes, interest and penalties. It also paid more than $100,000 to settle two lawsuits, byproducts of the unpaid bills. And it still owed $206,252 in loans to Sharpton’s for-profit Bo-Spanky Consulting Inc. and Sharpton Media...

The Penn State scandal couldn't be more serious. Can't MSNBC find someone more serious than Al Sharpton to comment on it? On his show this evening, Sharpton had another stumble reminiscent of his "resist we much" moment. This time, Sharpton mangled the name of Mike McQueary, the suspended Penn State assistant coach, pronouncing it "Muckary." View the video here.

Call yourself a Christian? Then you can't oppose whatever welfare programs the Democrats come up with. So in effect argued Al Sharpton on his MSNBC show this evening. In the course of criticizing House Republicans for having passed a bill reaffirming "In God We Trust" as the national motto, Sharpton somehow equated Christianity with support for the liberal agenda. And although I'm the opposite of an expert on Christian theology, he also came up with a formulation on faith and works that might be surprising to some Protestants. View the video here.

Valerie Green-Thomas sees them every day in her classes at the Bronx middle school where she is a special education teacher. Kids hungry, anxious, living in the dark because the electricity in their homes has been turned off. “I really wanted to come to this country, but I am so disappointed,” she said in her Jamaican accent. “To realize that the dream is not the dream.”[snip] A succession of speakers, including American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis, offered support. They warmed up the crowd for Sharpton, whose raspy voice rang out, “No justice?...
