Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Of his 13 movies a few are considered classics in their respective genres. Including the black comedy Dr. Strangelove, the highly-quoteable anti-war commentary of Full Metal Jacket, and one of the most disturbing horror films of all time, The Shining. But in 1968, Kubrick released "2001 - A Space Odyssey". This is more than a classic. It's a masterpiece. And widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and probably the most influential. This collaboration with science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke tells the story of...

Radio host Alex Jones trended on Twitter during the July 4th holiday for a rant telling Americans to declare independence from the “alien force… attempting to exterminate the majority” of humanity. Jones’ rant trended despite him being banned from the platform in 2018. Jones stated: “I declare this July 4, 2022, to be a declaration of independence against the alien force on this planet today waging war against humans and our biology and our very future that is attempting to exterminate the majority of us, and force the minority that’s left to merge with AI computers and become cyborg slaves...

Is it dangerous to speak Spanish in public in Trump's America? Well, sí! Just this month, we've seen a lawyer threaten to call ICE after he overheard people in a restaurant in Manhattan speak in Spanish, and a Border Patrol agent in Montana detain two Mexican-American women for 40 minutes because he heard the bilingual women chatting en español, because the language “is very unheard of up here,” according to la migra man.

Tears were shed in the closed-door Republican meeting Wednesday morning when House Speaker Paul Ryan formally announced his retirement. The sorrow spilled into the marble halls of the Capitol, giving the building the air of a funeral parlor throughout the day, but critics say that had more to do with the rotting corpse that is the contemporary GOP than with Ryan’s early departure. Still, most Republicans followed Ryan’s lead and tried to put on a happy face, arguing that his retirement had to do with his desire to spend time with his kids, not the dire odds facing the GOP...

Members of 4chan's /pol/ board, the hotbed of the alt-right, are pretty active in Britain, as the conspiracy theories around Grenfell Tower fire and the terror attack at Ariana Grande concert show. But this time they have stepped up their game. Hackers from /pol/ claimed responsibility on 4chan for breaking into a billboard in the heart of Cardiff's busy shopping district and using it to broadcast swastikas, images about Islam, a Big Brother message from George Orwell's 1984 and a photo of Donald Trump as alt-right meme Pepe the Frog.

During its Monday meeting, Cambridge City Council is slated to vote on a resolution calling for the U.S. House of Representatives to begin such an investigation. The resolution -- which is largely symbolic -- follows similar calls to action by other city councils, including Richmond, Virginia; Berkeley, California,; and Alameda, California.

I am incredibly steamed this Thanksgiving Holiday over what the Democrats are doing to my country. Everybody by now knows—or should know—how readily Democrats conduct election fraud, and how determined they are to defend it. James O’Keefe and others have taken videos of paid Democratic operatives encouraging citizens to vote twice. O’Keefe was even able to claim Attorney General Eric Holder’s own ballot at a district polling place by claiming to be him, and then to vote in his place. … But even knowing this, I was not prepared for a conversation I had at Thanksgiving dinner with my brother-in-law,...

What Arkansas voters had to say after casting ballots in Tuesday's primary election: Bobby Smith, a 73-year-old retired aircraft mechanic, cast an early ballot for President Barack Obama even though he said he disagreed with the president's stand on gay marriage. "They don't have but two names on the ballot: President Obama and that other guy," Smith said outside a community center in downtown Little Rock where other people were voting on Tuesday. "I don't know anything about the other guy," he said, referring to John Wolfe. ___ Sarah Edmondson, 57, of Lonoke said she voted for Wolfe for president,...

Officials have blamed the failures on obsolete equipment and an aging workforce.

The most important thing to know about the "death by drone" of Anwar al-Awlaki is that this is really about citizenship and anchor babies. Anwar, America's enemy, is a US citizen by virtue of his Yemeni dad pursuing higher education in the US at the time of Anwar's birth. Anwar was born in New Mexico in April of 1971. That made him a US citizen. It doesn't matter that he returned to Yemen and that his parents had no intention of ever becoming US citizens while they lived here. What matters is the address of the hospital in which little...

Sara Simmons straps her youngest daughter Anabelle, 2, into a car safety seat whenever she drives the family's van. Her middle daughter, Juliana, 6, doesn't use one, though. She sits in a booster seat only occasionally. ----SNIP---- That means Juliana and all other 6- and 7-year-olds would have to move into booster seats when they outgrew their car seats. A companion bill passed in the House, so the measure is close to becoming law.

WASHINGTON – Disabilities advocates are applauding Congress for passing legislation that eliminates the term "mental retardation" from federal laws. The measure, passed by the House by voice vote Wednesday night, changes the phrase "mentally retarded" to "an individual with an intellectual disability" in existing health, education and labor law. Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, sponsor of the bill with Republican Sen Mike Enzi, of Wyoming, said it would make language in federal law consistent with that used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the health arm of the United Nations and the White House. "Rosa's Law," named...

Chris Matthews, on Tuesday's Hardball, brought on two former CIA officials to discuss the latest terror attack, and the MSNBC host agreed with Tyler Drumheller that the most recent attacker was motivated by his house being foreclosed on and also agreed with Robert Baer who feared another attack could lead to "The Tea Party being strengthened" which could lead to "people blaming the White House for a situation it didn't create." Baer also hit Matthews' sweet spot of talking points when he went on to warn that the last successful terror attack "got us into a war in Iraq we...
