Dr. Philip Gossett, a retired music scholar and professor of music at the University of Chicago who was considered one of the world's foremost experts on 19th-century Italian opera, died Monday at his home in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The FBI has blocked two of its veteran counterterrorism agents from going public with accusations that the CIA deliberately withheld crucial intelligence before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Authorities have identified the body pulled Monday from Goose Lake in White Bear Lake, Minn. as Nicholas Rossini, a West Point cadet who was last seen in December. Rossini, 21, left his family's home sometime in the morning of Dec. 17 and had not been seen since. He was a first-year cadet at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point and his family feared he was despondent following a drunken-driving arrest the day before.
