Joshua Shaw was born in England in 1776 and was already noted as an artist and painter of landscapes when he came to America as a young man. SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (WIS) - Two Air Force F-16 jets based out of Shaw Air Force Base collided off the coast of South Carolina Thursday night, and one of them is missing. Air Force officials said the fighters were assigned to the 20th Fighter Wing collided in mid-air over the Atlantic Ocean about 8:30pm on Thursday near Myrtle Beach. The aircraft were participating in night training maneuvers, officials said. The aircraft carried one person each. JERSEY CITY -- Jack Shaw, a Jersey City political consultant who was among 44 people charged in a federal corruption probe, has died. Two officials with knowledge of the investigation said Shaw was found at home with several bottles of pills nearby. One of the officials said Shaw, 61, had an unspecified medical condition, and authorities are not jumping to conclusions about the cause of his death.

State Sen. Larry Shaw has already gotten hate mail since he was named chairman of a national Muslim civil rights organization last week. Shaw Air Force Base is welcoming home members of a fighter squadron after a four-month deployment in Iraq. Air Force officials say nine pilots and their F-16CJ fighter jets returned home on Thursday. The pilots and aircraft were stationed at a base in central Iraq. The Air Force says the remaining 300 members of the 55th Fighter Squadron and the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron are expected to return to Shaw on Saturday. Three military bases in South Carolina are likely to become future homes for the F-35 fighter. The jet still is under development.
