Officials on Wednesday are responding to a "real world security incident" at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. A Facebook post around 3:30 p.m. advised people to avoid the area so emergency responders can do their jobs. People were also urged to shelter in place and asked to lock doors and windows. Due to the government shut down....the Silliness Thread has been #barrycaded. ***THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS******THIS***THREAD***IS***CLOSED***DONOTCROSS*** Naw....no amount of barrycading is gonna stop me....Now, as reported at American Glob, Barrycade Earns Entry At Urban Dictionary.  The definition seems to fit:1. barrycade 1. A barrier (usually temporary) that exists for no reason.2. A barrier erected for political reasons.“Dude, Obama barrycaded the park.”“Hey, let’s put up some barrycades to keep those World War II veterans away from the open-air World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., in order to try and score some cheap political points.”What I've been wondering about the barrycades... When the government does something...

Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating. Why do we...

A disputed land-use strategy designed to protect new developments from devastation in the county's exurban, fire-prone areas appears to have passed its first and most critical test this week. As the Witch Creek fire raced through some of San Diego County's priciest neighborhoods and crept to the edge of others north and east of Rancho Santa Fe, not a single home in the five subdivisions that have implemented the strategy was lost, fire authorities said. The communities, which together cover hundreds of acres, are The Bridges, The Crosby, Cielo, Santa Fe Valley and 4S Ranch. Officials with the Rancho Santa...
