It's safe to say that University of North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora is not a fan of the trends in football. Fedora spoke to the media on Wednesday, saying "our game is under attack" and expressing a number of unpopular opinions, including the idea that football does not cause CTE. [snip] Fedora believes that rule changes involving the physicality of the game will make football "unrecognizable" within ten years.

So tonight I was at the annual festival Jazz en La Costa in Almunecar, Spain. It's a week long series of concerts that feature top names in jazz from around the world and I look forward to going to it every year. Tonight's band was Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Dennis Chambers and Tom Kennedy. It was a great set until Mike started talking about a song he said Randy wrote called the Dipshit, named in honor of Donald Trump. Since Almunecar is a Spanish resort town most of the audience didn't know what he was talking about except for the...

  • Survey: Military binge drinking drops, but this service stood out in a bad way

    07/18/2018 2:21:43 PM PDT · by BBell · 104 replies
About one-third of the service personnel surveyed met the criteria indicating hazardous drinking and possible alcohol use disorder, with 30 percent reporting that they binge drank in the past month. Among Marines, that figure jumped to 42.6 percent. Binge drinking is defined as more than five drinks for men or more than four for women in one sitting, according to the report, issued by Rand and based on a survey that was conducted from late 2015 to early 2016. That rate was down from 33.1 percent in the previously reported survey from 2011, but it’s still high enough to cause...

The suit alleges that one of the officers forced the mother to lift her shirt and "expose her breasts" in public view.In-car video from a traffic stop that led to a woman and her adult daughter suing the city of Pasadena and two police officers for allegedly sexually assaulting them was released Tuesday. Acting Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian called the lawsuit "baseless" and "unsubstantiated." "The claims on which the lawsuit rests are easily proven false," Derderian said. "Pasadena Police Department patrol officers initiated a traffic stop based upon a detective investigation and traffic violation witnessed by police. As...

t really is quite simple. Everyone is smart except Donald J. Trump. That’s why they all are billionaires and all got elected President. Only Trump does not know what he is doing. Only Trump does not know how to negotiate with Vladimir Putin. Anderson Cooper knows how to stand up to Putin. The whole crowd at MSNBC does. All the journalists do. They could not stand up to Matt Lauer at NBC. They could not stand up to Charlie Rose at CBS. They could not stand up to Mark Halperin at NBC. Nor up to Leon Wieseltier at the New...

He was born and raised in England. But Jeremy Reynalds adopted Albuquerque as his home 32 years ago, and our city is a better place because of it. Reynalds, who lost his battle with cancer late Tuesday at the age of 60, was a tireless advocate for the homeless. He dedicated himself to providing food and shelter for them and to nurturing them spiritually. He founded and ran Joy Junction, the state’s largest homeless shelter, until his death. It’s difficult to say how many people Reynalds and Joy Junction have helped over the years, but it’s easily in the tens...

We're living through a strange era, one in which logic and reason has been turned on its head, forcing us to view the world through the lens of the seriously deranged. These insidious distortions of reality come in many forms, but, in this instance, I'd like to address the issue of biological sex. A mere few decades ago, who would have imagined that one day we'd be told that there are more than two sexes? With a plethora of scientific and commonsense evidence describing a male and female as the necessary ingredients for the continuation of the human species (and...

The findings of a new peer-reviewed study suggest that college masculinity programs may be “damaging” to the romantic prospects of male students. Led by University of Iowa researcher Pelin Gul, the study “Benevolent Sexism and Mate Preferences” discovered that women prefer men with chivalrous attitudes and behaviours, since those men are seen as more likely to “invest, protect, provide, and commit.” "Masculinity training programs can be damaging to male college students indeed, since it seems like these programs are focused on a very unrealistic conception of gender equality." Even feminist women preferred chivalrous men, the researchers discovered, suggesting that “attraction...

Dear Dwayne, My name is Katy Sullivan. I am an actress, Paralympian, double above-the-knee amputee from birth, and I have a request to ask of you. You seem like a genuinely good dude, so I hope this will be received in the spirit that it was intended: Actor to Actor. Your most recent film, Skyscraper, opens this weekend. Cheers! Congratulations! However, my request is for you to stop saying “Yes” to roles like the one in that movie. And here’s why… Individuals with disabilities make up almost 20% of the world’s population. We are the largest minority and the “most...

Hollywood’s unions are “steadfastly” opposing an amendment to a bill pending in Congress that would slash funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities by 15%. The coalition of 12 unions, representing half a million industry workers and artists, includes SAG-AFTRA, the DGA, IATSE, the American Federation of Musicians, Actors’ Equity and the WGA East. The opposition is being spearheaded by the Department of Professional Employees, AFL-CIO, through which many of the unions are affiliated. Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) offered the amendment to next year’s Interior, Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill. “The...

With dynamic growth and access to capital seen as primary factors for jumping three places, the US has regained its status as being on the cutting edge of competitiveness in a ranking by the IMD think tank. A competitive ranking of 63 advanced economies published on Wednesday showed the United States improving three positions to return to the top spot, overtaking Hong Kong, Singapore and the Netherlands, and leaving Switzerland behind. As the top five most competitive countries in the world remained the same — changing only in their order — the American economy's comeback was mainly driven by economic performance,...

Would it surprise you to learn that if you were picking a governing philosophy based only on personal satisfaction, many would choose to be conservative? The perks cover everything from a potentially better sex life to the ability to lose a few pounds and a sense of greater meaning in life. Don’t take my word for it; let’s go to polls. Researchers at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles recently reported on a study in the Social Psychological and Personality Science that looked at “five data sets that include representative samples from 16 countries,” finding that conservatives found...
  • Vagisil adds abortion-causing emergency contraceptive to product line

When you think of Vagisil, the first thing that probably comes to mind is “itch relief,” or something along those lines — not “emergency contraceptive.” And yet, that is exactly what Vagisil has added to its product line. Vagisil’s new “products” tab on its website is a subtle deception. The vaginal care company recently introduced a new contraceptive — while conveniently leaving out the fact that it can act as an abortifacient, meaning it can expel an already-fertilized new human being. Preventeza actually contains the same ingredient as Plan B, also known as the morning after pill. The main ingredient...

WESTON, Florida -- A Florida mother blames the death of her 15-year-old daughter on what she calls confusing packaging for Reese's Chips Ahoy cookies. In a July 12 Facebook post, Kellie Travers-Stafford wrote that her daughter Alexi mistakenly ate one of the cookies at a friend's house despite her peanut allergy, because the top of the familiar red packaging was peeled back, hiding the Reese's label. She says Alexi felt tingling in her mouth on June 25 and they administered two Epipens but Alexi quickly went into anaphylactic shock, stopped breathing and died within an hour and a half of...
