The much-publicized Laci Peterson murder case in California shines a white-hot spotlight on the New York State Assembly Health Committee’s stubborn refusal to allow the full Assembly to even consider Assembly Bill A693. Trent Lott resigns from the Senate before January 1st, 2003, a special election would be held 90 to 100 days before his departure, and the GOP would stand a very good chance of electing one of their own to replace him. If Lott resigns after January 1st, 2003, Governor Musgrove, a Democrat, would as we have all heard, be able to appoint someone to Lott's position.
