He fought back, pulled his own handgun and shot the robber five times. Although the gun weilding thief was half his age, Lewis wasn't giving in. A Waukegan man is in stable condition after being shot by the store owner he is charged with robbing. Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Patricia Fix said officials are reviewing the details of the Sunday night shooting of Demitrius Newbill, 29. Newbill, who was shot in the chest, is at Vista East Medical Center. Portsmouth police say they have three robbery suspects in custody, after the owner of a clothing store they were attempting to rob decided to take matters into his own hands. According to police, it was around 1:30pm Thursday when the three entered the Playaz Gear store in the Victory Corner Shopping Center in the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard. Ngoc Thanh Le knew his line of work was dangerous so that's why, a family member said, he kept a handgun behind the register of his westside convenience store. The man that patrons and friends called Papa was forced to use the gun Monday morning when an armed robber tried to hold up the mom and pop store in the 9800 block of Westpark.
