<p>Hinds Community College is competing for federal funds to build a $17 million regional training center for terrorism response.</p>
<p>Money is available through the Department of Homeland Security for such regional centers around the nation.</p>
<p>"It will be a very competitive situation,'' said former U.S. Rep. Ronnie Shows, a consultant who is being hired to help Hinds win the center.</p>
