Poor Elon Musk. COVID-19 has killed nearly 2,700 Californians so far, but he’s the one who’s truly suffering during the coronavirus pandemic. The Tesla founder and billionaire CEO launched a fresh Twitter tantrum on Saturday. He threatened to move his electric car company out of California as a protest against the state’s coronavirus stay-at-home order. “Frankly, this is the final straw,” wrote Musk on Twitter after health officials in Alameda County declined to let Tesla’s factory re-open this week. “Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately.” Musk also insulted Alameda County’s health officer, calling her...

Elon Musk announced that Tesla will move its headquarters and more from California to Texas and Nevada due to the local response to the coronavirus, which he believes is excessive. Over the last few weeks, Musk has been criticizing the shelter-in-place orders and restrictions related to the pandemic – going as far as calling them fascist. Things are now starting to ramp up from just talk to actions. As we reported earlier this week, Tesla attempted to reopen Fremont factory following comments from California’s Governor about starting to slowly reopen the state, but Alameda County, where the Fremont factory is...

Elon Musk has announced that he plans to move the Tesla HQ to Texas and Nevada 'immediately' after a California county health official said that the plant could not reopen. The disgruntled CEO took to a comment thread on Twitter to share that he was also planning to file a lawsuit against Alameda County. 'Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately,' he said in the Saturday tweet. 'If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependent on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla...

Elon Musk and Grimes have chosen a very unconventional name for their newborn son: X Æ A-12. On Monday, after the Tesla CEO announced the birth of his child with the Canadian singer, a fan tweeted, “We need the name we literally need it.” Musk, 48, responded, “X Æ A-12 Musk,” with no explanation. He also shared two photos of the newborn — one with a filter of tattoos on his face.

Tesla Inc. TSLA, +4.08% Chief Executive Elon Musk reiterated his criticism of ongoing shelter-in-place orders across the U.S., calling it an "infringement of people's rights" and saying that telling people they cannot leave their homes is "fascist, this is not democratic. Give people back their (expletive) freedom." Tesla's sole U.S. vehicle-producing factory in Fremont, Calif., has been shuttered since late March as the San Francisco Bay Area was among the first regions in the U.S. to issue mandatory shutdowns. "It's outrage" that will cause "great harm" not just to Tesla but other companies and suppliers, Musk said in a call...

WASHINGTON—Republican Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Mike Braun of Indiana are proposing to limit the federal tax credit for electric vehicles (EVs) to those costing $45,000 or less and end the subsidy entirely for affluent buyers. Depending on the price of the EV purchased, the tax credit allows buyers to deduct between $2,500 and $7,500 from their federal taxes. The credit first went into effect in 2011. “Iowa taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for millionaires to get a discount on luxury cars. That’s why I’ve been working hard to get the EV tax credit off the books,” Ernst...

General Motors (GM) recently announced it was investing billions into a new eco-friendly “electric car” initiative to compete with the tech giant Tesla in an effort to go green, and tech media outlets are touting the change. Both Axios and The Verge ran stories March 4 on GM’s $20 billion bet over the next five years on its new green initiative. And while Axios questioned the stability of GM’s commitment, and The Verge tried to play gotcha by criticizing how the company’s past positions have aligned with the policies of President Donald Trump, the outlets appeared to like the shift...

During a staff meeting at the Riverbend plant Wednesday morning, Panasonic Solar North America President Mark Shima announced what published reports had already indicated: all 400 Panasonic employees at the South Buffalo solar production plant would be losing their jobs at the end of May. "This is a really tough announcement but I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you," Shima told the employees. 7 Eyewitness News obtained audio of the meeting, in which Shima explains why Panasonic is shutting down and what this means for staff at the facility co-located with Tesla. "We have been dealing...

The National Transportation Safety Board says the driver of a Tesla SUV who died in a Silicon Valley crash two years ago was playing a video game on his smartphone at the time. Chairman Robert Sumwalt said at the start of a hearing Tuesday that partially automated driving systems like Tesla’s Autopilot cannot drive themselves. Yet he says drivers continue to use them without paying attention. He says the board made recommendations to six automakers in 2017 to stop the problem and only Tesla has failed to respond. The board will determine a cause of the crash at the hearing...

Recently sold on the website Only Used Tesla is what is believed to be the highest-mileage Tesla Model X in the world—a 2016 “90D†rental car/shuttle with over 400,000 miles on the odometer. The company that owned it, Tesloop, gave me the vehicle’s full maintenance records, so let’s look at every part that had to be swapped for this electric crossover to reach 400,000 miles in this condition.~snip~Before we go on, I want to make clear that this story is not a criticism of Tesla, nor is it implying that its cars are less-than-reliable, or that they’re significantly more reliable or easier to maintain...

BERLIN - A German court ruled on Thursday that Tesla Inc can continue to clear forest near the capital Berlin to build its first European car and battery factory, in a defeat for local environmental activists. The court said in a statement it had rejected urgent applications to stop the land being cleared of trees from several environmental groups, adding its ruling was final. It had temporarily halted the tree felling earlier this month. The U.S. electric carmaker announced plans last November to build a Gigafactory in Gruenheide.

A group of hackers has managed to trick Tesla’s first-generation Autopilot into accelerating from 35 to 85 mph with a modified speed limit sign that humans would be able to read correctly. Hackers at McAfee Advanced Threat Research conducted the experiment. Ultimately, they were able to make a Tesla vehicle on Autopilot accelerate by 50 mph over the limit: The ultimate finding here is that we were able to achieve the original goal. By making a tiny sticker-based modification to our speed limit sign, we were able to cause a targeted misclassification of the MobilEye camera on a Tesla and...

Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler's profits slumped by almost two-thirds in 2019 as the legal costs of the "dieselgate" scandal and heavy investments in electric technology took their toll. The German carmaker's net profit fell to €2.7bn (£2.3bn) for 2019, it announced on Tuesday, almost €5bn worse than the previous year's performance. It also slashed its dividend from €3.25 per share to only 90 cents to help preserve cash to plough into electric vehicle technology. Daimler is carrying out swingeing cuts to its global workforce as it tries to save more than €1bn in costs. In November it said it would cut...
