SEATTLE (AP) — At first, Henry Bridger II supported Kshama Sawant, Seattle’s combative socialist city councilmember. A liberal voter in one of the most liberal neighborhoods in an extremely liberal city, he liked her fresh outlook and support for a $15 minimum wage. Seven years later, Bridger is leading an effort to recall Sawant. With ballots due Tuesday night in Seattle’s Third District, the results could further shift power in the Northwest’s largest city and deal another setback to leftist activists who saw business-friendly candidates win a council seat and the mayor’s office in last month’s general election. At stake...

A female Democrat running for Congress in Kansas is dropping out of the race after allegations of sexual assault stemming from a 2005 lawsuit resurfaced during a recent interview. Mother-of-two Andrea Ramsey was asked by the Kansas City Star about a lawsuit regarding accusations of sexually harassing and retaliating against a male subordinate, Gary Funkhouser, who said he rejected her sexual advances in 2005. Court Documents show that Funkhouser and LabOne, a company where Ramsey was executive vice president of human resources, agreed to dismiss the case after mediation in 2006, according to the Star. Ramsey, from Leawood, Kansas, was...

It's Official: Chuck Ahner is the Republican Nominee for United States Congress! The Kansas Secretary of State certified the results of last Tuesday's Primary Election. According to the Kansas City Star, "Chuck Ahner surged ahead of the three other Republican candidates" and "trounced" his closest opponent in the race. Winning more than 52 percent of the vote in a 4-person race, Chuck Ahner was the clear consensus candidate to be the Republican nominee in the 2006 general election. Chuck's clear message of stronger education, limited government and economic growth resonated with the people of the Third District and brought together...

Smith impressed many with her skills By Mike Bockoven michael.bockoven@theindependent.com For the people who knew and worked with Virginia Smith, there were three common themes -- they all met her in person, they all admired her work as Third District Representative, and they all found her fantastic. "She was one lady you never forgot," Margaret Landis, a former Hall County Supervisor who worked with Smith on getting water out to the Capital Heights area, said. "We've had some good people follow her, but I guarantee they weren't her. She was a dynamic lady." Smith died Monday at the age of...

Great new website called: www.firedennismoore.blogspot.com They are having a straw poll for the next nominee to take on Dennis Moore. I strongly encourage all Freepers (especially in Kansas) to join in. To get rid of ultra liberals like Dennis Moore....We need more bloggers and conservatives.

During the heat of a summer Republican primary, Kris Kobach promised to campaign against Democratic U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore like no one had before. He did. And he lost by a bigger margin than any Republican who has challenged Moore, whose political survival skills keep him in office in the Republican-dominated 3rd Congressional District. The latest win doesn't ensure an easy election for Moore in the future, but it does mean Republicans may have an even more difficult task of defeating him. There is chatter among Republicans on the Internet complaining that Kobach's conservative campaign emphasizing a gay-marriage amendment and...
