The Interior Ministry said 368 people were placed in custody for riots and violence on the nights of 13 and 14 July  — scenes which have become a regular occurrence in multicultural urban neighborhoods of Paris at the start of Bastille Day celebrations each year.

First Lady Melania Trump radiated atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, where she and President Donald Trump ate dinner Thursday night with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte. Melania, always one for custom-made high fashion frocks, wore a bespoke Hervé Pierre red, white and navy blue cocktail dress for the formal dinner, paired with black stilettos and perfectly tousled hair. The dress takes inspiration from the Americana and French flags, but also is unusual in its bodice origami-like detailing, which resembles a basket of wheat.

It seems Donald Trump can hardly go anywhere without creating an awkward moment, and his latest has been directed at France’s new First Lady Brigitte Macron. The US president and his wife Melania had just finished a museum tour of Les Invalides with the Macrons, and were saying their parting farewells when Donald approached Brigitte. France’s Foreign Minister said Wednesday Europe must not flinch in protecting European interests from President-elect Donald Trump. “We have to meet the challenge for a Europe that must be able to better defend its citizens and its interests,” French Foreign Minsiter Jean-Marc Ayrault told French media. Ayrault called Trump’s statements on foreign policy “confused” and shocking to traditional U.S. allies.
