Another 74 miles of 30-foot tall wall is set to be built on the Arizona-Mexico border, federal officials said on Monday. Customs and Border Protection officials on Monday asked for public comment on new border wall projects in Cochise, Pima and Santa Cruz counties. These projects are in addition to 63 miles of wall being built in Cochise and Pima counties, as well as other wall projects in Yuma County. The new wall projects announced Monday will consist of 30-foot tall steel poles, known as bollards, that are 6 inches in diameter, according to CBP. This is the same design...

uring President George W. Bush’s term, a trial version of a “smart” border wall was built along the U.S. border by Raytheon. This idea resurfaced in the 2017 and 2018 discussions about putting in a smart border wall along the U.S. border instead of the classic, solid walls Trump supporters have called for.

  • As Trump Barricades the Border, Legal Immigration Is Beginning to Plunge. President Trump’s border wall is beginning to rise, but a thick curtain of policy changes is more responsible for suppressing the flow of immigrants into the country.

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s immigration policies — like travel bans and visa restrictions or refugee caps and asylum changes — have begun to deliver on a longstanding goal: Legal immigration has fallen more than 11 percent and a steeper cut is looming. While Mr. Trump highlights the construction of a border wall to stress his war on illegal immigration, it is through policy changes, not physical barriers, that his administration has been able to seal the United States. Two more measures were to take effect by Monday, an expansion of his travel ban and strict wealth tests on green card...

by Joe Callen The Trump administration stunned Democrat lawmakers and immigration advocacy groups Wednesday, announcing it will waive federal contracting laws to greatly speed up construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. The Department of Homeland Security said waiving procurement regulations will allow 377 miles of new wall to be built far more quickly in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The 10 waived laws include requirements for having open competition, justifying selections and receiving all bonding from a contractor before any work can begin. By one estimate, the time to complete this huge section of wall could...

The Defense Department, under White House pressure, is expected to announce this week that billions more in Pentagon funds will go toward the border wall, according to an administration official. A senior Defense official also told CNN that a major announcement about the border will made this week... Last year, President Trump declared a national emergency, allowing him to unlock billions of dollars in federal funds to mount additional barriers along the US-Mexico border. While efforts to pull from several government accounts has been met with legal challenges, the administration has pressed forward. In January, the Pentagon received a request...

A federal appeals court has ruled the Trump administration can divert $3.6 billion in military funds to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Multiple reports indicate the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to temporarily stay a lower court ruling out of Texas. Reuters reports the stay is pending an appeal by the Trump administration of the ruling by a federal judge that prevented the transfer of funds. El Paso County, Texas, and the Border Network for Human Rights have been challenging the funds transfer. The panel noted that the U.S. Supreme Court had issued a stay in...

House Democrats are unhappy with border security funding included in a massive government spending package poised to become law in a matter of days. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus confronted Democratic leaders Tuesday in a closed-door meeting about a provision in the fiscal 2020 spending measure that would provide $1.375 billion for the construction of a southern border wall. Democrats are also angry about language maintaining funding levels for detention facilities for illegal immigrants, as well as a provision allowing President Trump to maintain his authority to transfer existing federal funding to border security projects. “I’m not voting for it,” Rep....

The Trump administration proposed new regulations Wednesday that would deny asylum protections to immigrants with criminal convictions — including some low-level offenses and misdemeanors — measures that would raise new legal barriers to those seeking refuge in the United States. The proposed change from the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security would disqualify asylum applicants found guilty of serious offenses such as driving while intoxicated and domestic battery, as well as lesser violations such as the use of false documents and reentering the United States illegally. The Trump administration has made multiple moves in recent months to make...

Donald Trump's dream of building a "big, beautiful wall" along the southern border took a hit yesterday when a federal judge ruled that Pentagon funds totaling $3.6 billion diverted for 11 construction projects along the southern border could not be used for wall construction. Significantly, the judge, David Briones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, ruled that other funds, already approved by the Supreme Court, could be spent. Those funds, which come from a Pentagon counter-narcotics fund, could still be used for wall construction. The argument being used by the city of El Paso was...
  • New Border Wall In San Diego Is Helping Drive Border Crossings Down

Do border walls work? Based on the evidence at the new border wall in San Diego, they do. A year ago, the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego was an easy spot for caravans to send migrants into the United States. Not so much anymore, according to a report from Fox News. A 14-mile long border wall in San Diego that replaced an old fence is already working wonders. “It's incredibly different...I’m able to see the old landing mat right next to the bollard and I'm able to see the old mesh right next to the new bollard and the...

In November last year, a caravan of hundreds of migrants approached the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego and faced old landing-mat border barriers erected decades ago. Border agents say the migrants simply trampled over it as they sought entry into the United States to claim asylum as part of migrant waves that would overwhelm authorities. The situation on the ground is much different now. As part of President Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall along the southern border, 14 miles of 18-foot primary steel bollard fencing has been built in San Diego, with a secondary 30-foot steel bollard barrier...

Senators voted Wednesday to rebuke President Trump and cancel his border emergency, saying he overstepped his powers in grabbing $3.6 billion Congress approved for military construction projects and instead spending it on his campaign promise to build a border wall. The 54-41 vote is unlikely to stop the president, though. While the measure is likely to pass the House, a veto is expected — and Wednesday’s tally showed there are more than enough Republicans ready to sustain Mr. Trump... The vote was a do-over. Congress held a similar vote in March, after Mr. Trump, furious that Congress approved only $1.375...

Despite the mainstream media continuing to insist that the President isn’t building any new border walls, sections of new or vastly improved “barrier systems” continue to appear as if by magic. And last week these efforts appeared to kick things up another gear, though you probably didn’t hear about it on most cable news outlets. The Department of the Interior is transferring more than 500 acres of federal land to the Department of the Army. The land will be used to begin construction on another 70 miles of border wall, so make room for the construction brigades, folks. (Epoch...
