• Efficiency Jump for White OLEDs

    11/22/2006 5:33:15 PM PST · by annie laurie · 7 replies · 510+ views
Microscale lenses and better materials move OLEDs closer to lighting our world. In an advance that could hasten the day when energy-efficient glowing plastic sheets replace traditional lightbulbs, a method for printing microscopic lenses nearly doubles the amount of photons coming out of the materials, called organic light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs. Stephen Forrest, an electrical engineer and vice president of research at the University of Michigan, says his technology increases the light output of the thin, flexible OLEDs by 70 percent. "They just create local curvature that allows light to pass through," he explains. This means that OLEDs, which are...

***This is a story about a baby born at 23 weeks*** Today Emmie-Rose’s Hospital has hit a major blow against us. I believe some of the staff believe we are not providing the correct care for her and had us meet with the “Ethics” committee. At most hospitals the Ethics committee is usually made up of staff, social workers, clergy, and parents of other children. We had a room full of the staff, 1 surgeon, 2 social workers, and Stephanie and I. Let’s just stack all the cards against us. After wasting 2 hours going over the issues, it is...

Local probe may have federal link By Brad Bauer, bbauer@mariettatimes.com Airport security information and airline manifests were among the items seized from two Michigan men arrested Tuesday in Marietta, now being held on felony terrorism charges. Federal authorities were working Wednesday evening to determine the significance of the documents. “We also found instructions detailing how to access certain airline databases,” said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks. “We passed all that information along to the FBI, and they’re reviewing it as we speak.” Although the findings have caused authorities some concern, the documents do not relate to terrorism charges filed Wednesday...
  • U.M.'s Proposed Mandatory Sex Course

If parents and students are right to be alarmed by the results of recent national tests that show U.S. schoolchildren falling behind Latvia in math scores and doing even worse in science education, then they will really be puzzled by the latest initiative at the University of Michigan: requiring that all students take a mandatory course on gender and sex. The same people who brought you racial preferences in college admissions, “hate speech” codes and mandatory courses in race and ethnicity now want another official captive audience so they can hector their charges about “oppressive” heterosexual dominance, homophobia, male harassment,...
  • Michigan Ruling Proves This Country is Really Screwed UP

The SCOTUS got it half right which means they got it all wrong. By refusing to stike down college preferences given strictly for race, the court has again proven that political correctness has run amok in this country. The issue is not complicated, some people see minorities at a disadvantage in this country due to slavery which ended 150 years ago. The social programs which have throw billions of dollars at this 'problem' for over 50 years are not considered enough. What is enough? Excuse me for being foolish but I think anyone in this counrty can do anything they...
  • The Evidence of Things Not Seen (Jayson Blair, Forced "Diversity," and Suppressed Data)

The New York Times' Jayson Blair, an individual reporter given to fabrication, was also, alas, a member of a group -- a favored group, if we are to believe the Times' boasts about its efforts to achieve "diversity" in its newsroom. For better or worse, diversity policy has become part of the Blair controversy. It is also something on which the Supreme Court is about to rule.
