The Virginia State Bar Association has canceled a trip for its members to learn in Jerusalem later this year after some members campaigned against it, accusing Israel of “unacceptable discriminatory policies and practices” in how it ensures its border security. The episode, confirmed in an email from Bar President Kevin Martingayle that was obtained by The Washington Times, is the latest example of the impact of an anti-Israel fervor that has swept across some parts of America in recent months as President Obama has feuded with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Certain members of the Virginia State Bar and other...

QUANTICO, Va., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- An HIV-infected U.S. Navy chaplain who pleaded guilty to forcible sodomy was sentenced Thursday to serve two years in a military prison. Lt. Cmdr. John Thomas Lee, 42, of Burke, Va., accepted a plea agreement with prosecutors that suspended 10 years of a 12-year sentence, dismissed him from the Navy and required him to forfeit future pay and benefits, the Baltimore Sun reported. Lee, a Roman Catholic priest, admitted forcing himself on a gay Naval Academy midshipman whom he counseled and to having sex with an Air Force officer without disclosing he was HIV-positive....

RICHMOND -- Former governor James S. Gilmore III wanted to create a Web site and video last week to announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, but he didn't have the money. "We did it on credit," said Dick Leggitt, a Gilmore adviser. "We went ahead and ordered the stuff. The bills came in this week, and now that we've formed a [federal] committee, we will pay for it." BILOXI, Miss. With drywall, two-by-fours and a patient faith in a sometimes-exasperating God, Burke resident Bart Tucker is trying to raise a small neighborhood from the dead. But in this Gulf Coast City of 50,000, a slender thumb of land smashed by the winds and waters of Hurricane Katrina, nothing comes easy -- least of all miracles. Since arriving in Biloxi with a convoy of supplies and volunteers from his fairfax County church, Lord of Life Lutheran, shortly after Labor Day, Tucker hs spent a total of eight weeks here. He goes home only to raise more money and recruit...

Arianna Huffington has become a spokeswoman for the watermelon movement. Like a watermelon that is green on the outside and red on the inside, Mrs. Huffington's recent attack on the manufacture and use of large SUVs has adopted the "green" rhetoric of environmentalism along with the philosophy of coercive utopianism that is the hallmark of "red" socialism.
