Under the caveat that anything can happen in politics nowadays, Axios CEO and co-founder Jim VandeHei said Friday he could see Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020. "If I had to put money from my own pocket on a candidate right now, it would be on Terry McAuliffe of Virginia," said VandeHei who helped launch Axios in January after leaving Politico, which he also co-founded and turned into a political powerhouse. Axios has quickly gained a reputation as a place for Washington-related scoops.

A NYT reporter has brought information to Politico‘s Editor-in-Chief John Harris and Executive Editor Jim VandeHei that has led to a reporter’s forced resignation. Politico issued a lengthy and serious memo tonight to employees announcing that Kendra Marr, a national political reporter who recently moved to a transportation beat, has been let go after numerous examples of lifted passages from other publications surfaced in seven of her stories.

People know that the MSM despises Sarah Palin. Still, it was shocking to hear the beans so blithely spilled . . . Jim Vandehei of Politico, on Morning Joe today: "If you talk to any single reporter at any media organization that we're aware of, I don't think that anyone thinks she can be president or should be president." by Mark Finkelstein February 14, 2006 - 19:52 Thirty-six minutes into tonight's Hardball, host Chris Matthews finally permitted a Cheney defender, former Cheney aide Ron Christie, to grace his program. Even then, Christie was not given an unobstructed opportunity to make his case, having to share the segment with hyper-partisan Dem consultant Bob Shrum - he of the record-breaking number of losing presidential campaigns - who tried to drag in everything from Iraq to Hurricane Katrina. Until Christie's belated appearance, Hardball was an absolutely ceaseless calvacade of criticism heaped on the Veep and his handling of the shooting incident that...

Good News for the White House: Milbank Is Off the Beat. The Bad News . . . The Bush White House finally got what it has wanted for years: Dana Milbank is off the White House beat for the Washington Post. He always was very skeptical of the White House message. The bad news for the Bushies is that Milbank will be writing a column in the Post’s front section. Prospective title is Off Message. Moving Milbank off the front lines is part of the Post’s strategy for covering the second Bush term. The Post is changing its entire team...
