My fellow Catholic Freepers will enjoy this. After mass this morning our cantor sung the song identified with each branch of the service and veterans from that branch were asked to stand. There was strong sustained cheering at each one. We closed with a singing of America The Beautiful and it brought a tear to my eye. We are new in this parish and never expected such warm friendship.

(CNN)The Department of Defense says the military parade originally scheduled for Veterans Day will be postponed. "The Department of Defense and White House have been planning a parade to honor America's military veterans and commemorate the centennial of World War I," Defense Department spokesman Col. Rob Manning said in a statement Thursday. "We originally targeted November 10, 2018 for this event but have now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019."

President Donald Trump's military parade is estimated to cost $92 million, according to a U.S. defense official with firsthand knowledge of the assessment.An earlier estimate pegged the cost at $12 million.The parade will take place in the nation's capital on Nov. 10 and will feature armored vehicles, aircraft flyovers and period uniforms.

WASHINGTON (AP) — It looks like President Donald Trump is getting the military parade he wants in Washington — though he may get no tanks for the effort.A Pentagon planning memo issued Thursday and released Friday says the parade being planned for Nov. 11, Veterans Day, will “include wheeled vehicles only, no tanks — consideration must be given to minimize damage to local infrastructure.” Big, heavy tanks could tear up District of Columbia streets.But the event will “include a heavy air component at the end of the parade,” meaning lots of airplane flyovers. Older aircraft will be included as available.

No NFL players protested during the national anthem before early games as the league celebrated Veterans Day weekend by honoring the military. The NFL Players Association had asked all players to observe a two-minute moment of silence before games to honor veterans.

Crestview Elementary physical education teacher Mark Haeslyhas spent his entire adult life serving his country. Haesly served his fellow countrymen in the Navy from 1974-1980. Upon return from service, Haesly picked up teaching physical education to elementary school kids. By all accounts, Haesly served honorably and as a role model to countless boys and girls for nearly 37 years in teaching. I spent much of the morning before Veterans Day in various TV green rooms with a whole lot of vets, and also a young lady whose father died in Iraq in 2006.
