Amber Joy Vinson was identified as the second victim diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas. It has been reported that Vinson didn’t have any pets and lived alone. It’s also not clear if she had a Facebook account. Vinson, 29, cared for Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan–who died of the disease. She along with nurse Nina Pham both were diagnosed with the virus. It was reported that Vinson traveled from Cleveland to Dallas on Oct. 13 but didn’t show any signs or symptoms of Ebola.

SAN DIEGO -- President Barack Obama, the nation's basketball-fan-in-chief, will have the seat of his choice at the Carrier Classic hoops game on Veterans Day on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson, the aircraft carrier that buried Osama bin Laden at sea. The White House announced Thursday that Obama has accepted an invitation to attend the Nov. 11 matchup between North Carolina and Michigan State, the first college basketball game on an active flat top. The Carl Vinson and its sailors have attracted considerable attention since early May, when the carrier conducted bin Laden's burial at sea after...

"At stake is whether Congress is free to regulate every human activity - and I do not exaggerate"Dave RacerMay 20, 2011 Liberals fear it, conservatives hope the Supreme Court upholds it. Judge Roger Vinson's ruling on the Affordable Care Act of 2010, along with the others that have cleared District Court (or will) are sure to end up at the Supreme Court.  Very few people have actually read the decision. If I could "mandate" that all Americans read this decision, Americans would come to understand the profound issues it raises. For at stake is whether Congress is free to regulate...

(CNSNews.com) - A federal judge in Florida, clearly annoyed by the Justice Department's request for "clarification" of his ruling that the new health care law is unconstitutional, on Thursday granted a stay of his February ruling -- but only if the government files an appeal seeking an expedited review of that ruling, either in the Court of Appeals or with the Supreme Court, within 7 days. Judge Roger Vinson noted that the Obama administration has had more than a month to file an appeal and has not yet done so. "It should not be at all difficult or challenging to...

United States District Judge Roger Vinson of Florida wants to make one thing perfectly clear: he did rule the entire ObamaCare law unconstitutional. Putting an end to weeks of weaselly language from Administration hacks and liberal pundits, Vinson confirmed that his January ruling killed ObamaCare stone dead. He was harshly critical of the Administration’s conduct since then, saying he did not expect them to “effectively ignore the order and declaratory judgment for two and one-half weeks, continue to implement the Act, and only then file a belated motion to clarify.” The Judge displayed his annoyance with marvelous bursts of dry...

In a harshly worded opinion, Judge Roger Vinson, the Florida federal judge who struck down the entire health care law in January, gave the Obama administration seven days from today to appeal his ruling with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Vinson issued the 20 page ruling today after the Obama administration had asked him to clarify his original opinion and tell the government whether his ruling was meant to strike down provisions of the law currently in effect. In the ruling Vinson is critical of Justice Department lawyers for waiting nearly two weeks before filing a “motion to clarify.”...

Much has been written and said about Judge Vinson’s  ruling today granting a very limited stay of his earlier declaratory ruling (which he “clarified” to have been the equivalent of an injunction) against further implementation of ObamaCare. I have little to add other than a few quotations from today’s decision; it is tantamount to a statement that the federal government acted in bad faith. [T]he defendants [federal government] had acknowledged in their summary judgment opposition brief that, if I were to find for the plaintiffs, separate injunctive relief would be superfluous and unnecessary. The defendants expressly assured the court that,...

Judge Kessler’s February 22nd ObamaCare decision held that a decision not to make a government-mandated purchase in interstate commerce is economic activity and therefore activates the federal government’s authority under the Commerce Clause. This presents a bit of a conundrum: even assuming that she is correct, how about the failure to make any decision at all whether to buy or not to buy? Does that failure to engage in a decision-making process, which she determined to be activity, also constitute activity in interstate commerce? If so, George Orwell would be disappointed that he hadn’t lived to read about it. Both decisions...
  • Judge Vinson Issues Response to Federal Government in Health Care Lawsuit

March 3, 2011 Media Contact: Jennifer Krell Davis Phone: (850) 245-0150 Judge Vinson Issues Response to Federal Government in Health Care Lawsuit TALLAHASSEE, FLA- Attorney General Pam Bondi today announced that Judge Roger Vinson has issued a response to the Department of Justice’s most recent motion in the health care lawsuit. This is the text of Judge Vinson's ruling on the Government's motion for clarification in this case. In short, he converted that motion to a motion for a stay and stayed his order pending final disposition of the case on the conditions that: 1) the Government appeal the order within 7 days and 2) that it be an expedited appeal. This is a major win for the plaintiffs in that the Government was trying to delay filing an appeal for the full 60 days that are generally allowed and trying not to make it an expedited appeal. If the Government...

The Florida judge who ruled against President Obama's health care law on Wednesday ordered the administration to expedite its appeal, if it plans to, within seven days. District Judge Roger Vinson, who issued his original decision on Jan. 31, ruled then that the individual mandate in the new law is unconstitutional, and since it is basically the entire linchpin of the law, he declared the remainder of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act void. The administration went back to Vinson to ask for clarification of his ruling. Vinson on Wednesday responded to the request by granting their motion --...

U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson has issued a stay of his own ruling declaring the health care reform law unconstitutional, giving the Obama administration seven days to file an appeal. The stay means implementation of the law can proceed pending the administration’s appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In his ruling, Vinson repeated what he has said previously — that “the citizens of this country have an interest in having this case resolved as soon as practically possible.” “That was nearly eleven months ago,” he wrote. “In the time since, the battle lines have been...

U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson has already dealt the Obama administration a staggering blow on health reform, and this week the administration may get another one from the fiery Florida judge. The Justice Department asked Vinson to clarify his ruling that struck down the law as unconstitutional. Justice must file its brief on the motion by Monday, and Vinson has said he would rule quickly after that. At issue is whether Vinson meant to stop reform implementation in the 26 states that brought the suit. The smart money says Vinson will halt implementation, and legal observers are wondering why...

Last month, a federal judge in Florida struck down ObamaCare in its entirety due to the unconstitutional nature of its individual mandate and lack of severability. The ruling technically freed 26 states from compliance on ObamaCare, at least until an appeal is heard at either the 11th Circuit or Supreme Court. Last night, however, the Obama administration asked Judge Roger Vinson to please tell all of the states to comply with the law he just threw out: The Obama administration, in a Thursday evening filing in a Northern Florida federal court, is asking the court to clarify that the 26...

PENSACOLA, Fla.—The Justice Department asked a federal judge in Florida on Thursday to tell states that they must continue to enact the Obama administration's health care overhaul despite the judge's ruling that the law is unconstitutional. In a motion to clarify, administration attorneys asked U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson to make clear that states cannot ignore the new health care laws while his ruling is being appealed. At stake, according to the government's motion, are provisions of the new law that would create chaos if ignored by the states.
