Midnight in South Vietnam, and the river is black. Past the rice paddies and shacks, small fires are burning by the shoreline as Lt. John H. Davis' 50-foot aluminum swift boat — PCF 19 — makes its routine patrol through the reeds.

John Kerry said Sunday that he's "outraged" that anyone would think the re-emergence of Osama bin Laden on a terror video released Friday may hurt his chances in next Tuesday's election. "I'm outraged that he has appeared," Kerry told ABC News anchor Peter Jennings. "I'm outraged that he inserts himself in any kind of way into the electoral process of America." Asked about comments from both his campaign and team Bush suggesting that the bin Laden tape gives the president a big boost in the closing days of the campaign, Kerry told Jennings, "I think it's unfortunate that anybody puts...

WILKES-BARRE - Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani called Sen. John Kerry's criticism of the Bush administration regarding 380 tons of missing explosives in Iraq "shameful." Speaking before about a crowd of about 150 packed into the Republican campaign headquarters Thursday afternoon, Giuliani said that by attacking President Bush, Kerry is impugning the performance of American troops. "What's he's saying by inference is that our troops didn't do their jobs. He's blaming it on the president, but the people that were there, the people on the ground, were our military. "He's talking about at most 380 tons of explosives...

http://chronwatch.com/content/contentDisplay.asp?aid=10716 The President Who Committed Treason Written by Raymond Kraft Friday, October 29, 2004 Next week the American people may do something they have never done before: they may elected as President of the United States of America a man who has committed treason against the United States of America. The Constitution of the United States of America defines treason as follows: "Section 3. 1. Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony...

This is a brief response and note to Kathryn's bringing to our attention Jay Costs points (below). I also think that Bush is doing much better in Ohio than the MSM gives him credit for; the MSM are spinning. And this explains why Bush was able to stay away from the state for ten days; he has a chance to take Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota, and still hold Ohio. Rove isn't an idiot and they haven't given up on Ohio. Jay mentions many good reasons for thinking this and he is essentially correct. I want to emphasize a few things,...

Aside from the small matter of the war for civilization, I don't have much time for Tony Blair. But, among many marvellous passages in his speech to the Labour Party Conference the other day, he had one especially striking moment: "When I hear people say: 'I want the old Tony Blair back, the one who cares,' I tell you something. I don't think as a human being, as a family man, I've changed at all. But I have changed as a leader. I have come to realize that caring in politics isn't really about 'caring.' It's about doing what you...

Replace Social Security payroll tax with national sales tax By Laurence J. Kotlikoff Wed, Oct. 20, 2004 With Iraq on the front burner, domestic policy is getting short shrift in the presidential campaign. Two issues – the tax system and Social Security – deserve much more attention. Notwithstanding recent tax cuts, our tax system places a huge burden on middle-class Americans, reducing not just their take-home pay but also their incentives to work and save. And Social Security is a walking time bomb with no obvious means, apart from highly regressive payroll tax hikes, of covering two-fifths of its future benefit commitments....

If I heard Fred right, he said that whoever has 50 or greater in the last Gallup Poll historically has won the election. He also said that since Bush was at 52 in the last Gallup poll he has a good shot at it... I wonder if that has historically been the case? It will be interesting to see where the Gallup number fall tomorrow...

ARLINGTON - A month ago, Michael Tedford was patrolling a military camp near the embattled city of Fallujah. This week, he returned to the front of his classroom at Jones Elementary School in the Mansfield school district. On Tuesday, school officials held a surprise welcome ceremony where he raised the flag and led the students in the Pledge of Allegiance. "We have one of our teachers back. We have one of our heroes," Principal Karl Bethel said. Tedford, a fourth-grade teacher and member of the National Guard, was in Iraq for nearly a year, mostly near Baghdad and Fallujah. He...

Per Zogby: “It's still neck and neck, folks, and targeting is intense. With Bush and Kerry now tied among seniors, small wonder that Kerry is pushing hard on social security. Recall that in 2000 when Gore faced the same dilemma, he closed out the race winning seniors pressing the social security button. Bush’s lead among armed forces’ families is strong—maybe Sinclair hears the call to reinforce. Similarly, Kerry’s growing young voter appeal can only be helped by the ‘draft.’ Two new items to note: Among newly registered voters Kerry leads 52% to 38%; among those who have already voted, Bush...

This peice was so moving that I posted it to the top of my own web site. It brought me to tears... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ posted on 10/15/2004 12:53:57 PM PDT by JFC Last week, on Tuesday, our school had a field trip to see President Bush speak at the Farm Progress Show in Alleman, Iowa. It was even educational trip to learn about all the security we had to go through at the outdoor event. It was a typical campaign stop for the President. He spoke for 45 minutes, much of his speech was about agriculture because there were many farmers...

45 minutes to go. If there is already a live debate thread go ahead and delete this. I understand posting a live thread has become a somewhat of a political ordeal here, when it shouldn't be. So to take the pressure off, I'm posting this anyway. Do I dare? LOL!
