  • Where Were You, Four Years Ago? Like Me, Probably Discounting Trump

It wasn’t twenty years ago today, as the Beatles once sang – only four, to be exact (though at times, it feels like two decades). And while Donald Trump isn’t Sgt. Pepper, he has succeeded in making American march to a different beat. It was four years ago on this date that Trump did the improbable – he descended down a Trump Tower escalator and leapt into a busy Republican primary field. Some of us who follow these things for a living refused to take him seriously at the time. That includes yours truly. I thought Trump was trying to...

There is often a poin in ones' life that one remembers so vividly that it simply cannot be forgotten. For our grandparents it was the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. For our parents it was the assassination of JFK. For us it was the attack on the World Trade Center. My question is this, where were you and what were you doing when you heard of the attack on the first and then the second WTC tower? What was your reaction?

Some of you were kind enough to post your remebrances of September 10th on this thread yesterday. I had already begun thinking of posting a similar thread for today, and then I heard the commentator on Haven on WMBN talking about a Gallup survey of New Yorkers that showed that they feel pressured to "move on" and they now talk less about the attacks than they did before. Yet a large number of them are feeling just as bad as they did two years ago, or worse. It seems we live in a nation that wants a microwave burrito approach...

September 11th, 2001. A day in which most United States citizens and many around the world will remember. I remember it as I was driving to work. I was living in Illinois at the time, and I was almost to my office when I heard the news report on the radio. It had stated a twin propeller airplane had crashed into the World Trade center. They stated it may have been a DC-3. Being a pilot, I immediately went into aviation mode. I then said a short prayer for those who lost their lives not realizing what was to come....

  • 9/11: From a High School Student's Point of View

    09/10/2003 7:35:33 PM PDT · by sdk7x7 · 72 replies · 576+ views
On 9/11, my life changed entirely. My friend told me a plane hit the WTC... I thought it was a joke. I walked into my history class and heard, over the radio, "The south tower has just fallen." Seeing another friend, I announced that we were at war. "Who could've done it?" he asked. "Who knows," I said, "It could've been Saddam or Osama bin Laden." 9/11 completely changed my life. From that day forward, I understood that the freedom we held so dearly was threatened by those who hate America for its many liberties and heroes. I became obsessed...

The last few days I've been thinking about the guys at Pearl Harbor, and a section of a National Geographic documentary that talked about what most of them were doing the day and night before. So I'm wondering: What was that last day of the old, sleeping America like for you all? You can post your remembrances (and any other events that you remember from that day, see post #1 for an example) in this thread. I'll start: I couldn't tell you which deals I signed or anything like that, but I was pounding the pavement to get newspaper ads...

On September 11, I was tired after spending a day working on the outskirts of the Holy City of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. On the one-hour drive back to the western compound outside Jeddah that I called home for the 20 months I spent in Saudi, I was listening to the only English-speaking radio station available, the American Forces Radio Network. The first broadcasts came through just as I left Mecca. By the time I reached Jeddah, speculation was growing as to likely suspects. My route home took me past the offices of the Saudi Bin Laden Group. I began...
  • Where are the Militias now? (vanity)

    03/18/2003 11:21:15 PM PST · by fire_eye · 90 replies · 253+ views
It seems to me that the various Militias are missing a unique chance to gain some positive recognition, in the current circumstances. There are far more vital facilities in the U.S. than the civilian law enforcment agencies can hope to protect from terrorist attack, and the military (in case you hadn't noticed), is currently Busy Elsewhere. The Militias could at least contact their local law enforcement agencies and ask them what they can do to help, and issue press releases detailing their availability and giving contact information. My understanding is that the original intent by the Founding Fathers intended for...
