Federal grant recipients broke the law while spending an estimated $246 million in taxpayer dollars for cannabis and e-cigarette animal experiments, a new report by a group opposing publicly-funded animal testing finds. White Coat Waste Project’s report, published Wednesday, highlights 10 instances of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funneling money to researchers experimenting with getting animals high on THC or making them consume nicotine. “The blunt truth is that tens of millions of tax dollars are going up in smoke for half-baked marijuana and vaping experiments on animals and NIH-funded white coats are breaking federal law by not disclosing...

I have noticed over the past 12 years that a very small number of physicians have posed, in their white coats, with politicians. There are more than 3,000 physicians practicing in Idaho today and when a small group — five or so — pose in the Capitol building in their white coats the general public may believe that this small group speaks for the medical profession as a whole. Nothing could be further from the truth. The majority of the 3.000 Idaho physicians are working so hard seeing patients that they don’t have time to take off from their practices...

HLN host S.E. Cupp made her own version of the leaked Lawrence O’Donnell tape that will have viewers rolling on the floor laughing. On her show Thursday night, Cupp addressed the leak of the O’Donnell video, which showed him yelling at producers to fix his earpiece and stop hammering noises from the floor above him. “O’Donnell’s getting heat for blowing up at unseen staffers and he’s apologized and said he should have handled it differently,” Cupp said. “But I’m just as outraged that someone inside Lawrence’s show… leaked the video in the first place. Not cool. This is why it...

A man who was driving naked has been arrested following a bizarre crash on a stretch of Interstate 49 in Shreveport, Louisiana about 1 p.m. Sunday. Shreveport police officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 49 in which a vehicle flipped numerous times after plowing into the back of two unsuspecting motorists. Witnesses reported that a man driving a grey Mitsubishi sedan had been observed traveling northbound on I-49 at excessive speeds, when he slammed into the rear end of a Cadillac sedan occupied by Warren and Linda Windham of Shreveport. The force of the collision was such that...

Medicine: The administration's nominee to run Medicare and Medicaid is a fan of Britain's National Health Service and rationing services. He believes in less discretion for your doctor, more power for your government. 'The decision is not whether or not we will ration care — the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open" is what Dr. Donald Berwick, President Obama's nominee to head the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, said in an interview published in Biotechnology Healthcare in June 2009. The question is whether the Senate will confirm Berwick with open eyes. Berwick says: "NICE is...

Health Reform: The white coats showed up again at the White House, helping the administration ram health care reform down our throats. Can you have a bipartisan bill without a bipartisan vote?It didn't work the first time, when the White House last year assembled enough sympathetic medical professionals to stage a photo-op in the Rose Garden trying to persuade us that, as the commercial goes, three of four doctors really, really support the administration's attempt to nationalize health care. Rather than a grass-roots uprising of physicians, last year's event was a classic case of astroturfing. Attendance was by invitation only,...

Politics: The administration stages a photo-op with handpicked doctors who support its health care reform. Fortunately, most doctors still believe that the first rule of medicine is to do no harm. It would seem some doctors still make house calls. Some 150 of them made one at the White House Monday in an attempt to give a booster shot to the administration's chaotic and stalled health care reform drive. Rather than a grass-roots uprising of physicians, this was a classic case of AstroTurfing. Attendance was by invitation only, and 40 of the 150 were said to be members of Doctors...

Health Care: Remember Cuba's vaunted medical missionaries — those who treated the poor abroad for nothing, supposedly out of selfless motives? A lawsuit shows they were nothing but a communist slave racket. It ought to bear a few lessons for our own country as the role of doctors in the health care debate drags on. Back in 1963, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro launched a much-praised initiative to share Cuba's medical doctors with the poor around the world. The idea, of course, was to appear to be acting on higher motives than the profit-driven doctors in free societies. It was small...
