They say age is nothing but a number. That is certainly the case when it comes to Alfredo Aliaga Burdio. The 92-year-old, who currently lives in Berlin, Germany, completed his trek across the Grand Canyon on 15 October 2023, becoming the oldest person to cross the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim on foot (male). Although it was Alfredo’s most historical journey across the Grand Canyon, it certainly wasn’t his first. “I have hiked in the Grand Canyon many times in my life,” he said. After his wife passed away from ALS in 2006, Alfredo decided he wanted to revisit the places where...

A man in Sri Lanka broke two world records this month when he had a massive kidney stone removed from his body, according to Guinness World Records. Sixty-two year old Canistus Coonghe, a retired soldier, had not only the largest kidney stone but also the heaviest. It was removed June 1 by a team of urologists. The 1.76 pound kidney stone – roughly the same weight as five baseballs – is the largest kidney stone ever recorded. Guinness stated on their website that the kidney stone is larger than Coonghe's actual kidney. Lengthwise, the stone reportedly measured 5.26 inches by...

A daredevil has broken the slackline world record after walking between two hot air balloons more than a mile above the ground. Rafael Zugno Bridi, 34, balanced precariously on the narrow inch-wide slackline among the clouds over Praia Grande in his native Brazil. The adrenaline junkie was barefoot 6,131ft in the air when he broke the record of the highest ever tightrope walk at more than double the height of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa which stands at 2,722ft.

Adam Gorlitsky hit the wall hard during his second marathon attempt around the mile 20-mark this past Saturday at the Charleston Marathon in South Carolina. The only other time he had ever run this far was during his first marathon attempt last March at the Los Angeles Marathon. While battling against pain in his wrists and legs and pushing the limits on the motors on his ReWalk Robotic Exoskeleton, Gorlitsky fought on, not only hoping to capture his first marathon finish, but also better the world record for fastest marathon in a robotic walking machine. He did just that after...

Jeannie Rice is faster at 71 than she was at 70. In October 2018, she stunned the running community when she broke 3:30 for a marathon, running 3:27:50 in Chicago. On September 29, almost one year later, she broke her own 70–74 world record in Berlin, running 3:24:48. She averaged 7:49 per mile. Rice, who splits her time between Mentor, Ohio, and Naples, Florida, ran even splits most of the race. All her 5Ks were in the 23-minute range, until the 35-kilometer mark (about 21.7 miles). Then she slowed to a 26:34. “I faded the last 5K, but I knew...

Aug. 20 (UPI) -- An Iowa family's 5-year-old bovine has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's shortest bull, standing at only 26.6 inches high. Heikens Ark Jupiter, aka Humphrey, was purchased by the Gardner family of Kelona in May 2017, and it was only after buying him that they discovered he wasn't a calf, he was a fully-grown 3-year-old miniature zebu bull. "It's hard for people to believe there are animals so small who are full-sized," owner Shelly Gardner said. "Most people, when they think of a bull, think of a large animal and he is...

In mid-2017, the sniping community was rocked by incredible news: a Canadian sniper team operating in the Middle East had made a successful kill at a distance of more than two miles. The team, deployed to fight the Islamic State, killed an ISIS fighter at a distance of 3,871 yards. The shot was a record breaker and more than a thousand yards farther than the previous world record. The shot, which bordered on the impossible, was made only slightly less so by the skill of the snipers involved. On June 22, 2017 the Globe and Mail [3] reported that two...

On 10 May, 1953, a front was passing through Slave Lake, a village on the South shore of Lesser Slave Lake in  Alberta, Canada.  It was cool, cloudy, and windy. A 63-year-old Cree grandmother and her partner were hunting small game near Florida Lake.  The wind was from the NE, at 12 to 24 mph. At dawn, the temperature had been 40 degrees F. On the morning of the 11th it would be 35 degrees F.  The high for the 10th was 58 degrees. Bella Twin and her partner Dave Auger were going to make hunting history. They were...

There have been many stories written about the likely new world record non-typical whitetail taken by Stephen Tucker in Tennessee.  It has been written about in The Tennessean, The New York Times, North American Whitetail, CNN, Fox News and Field and Stream.  Field and Stream is the only place I found a photograph of Stephen with his rifle.  The rifle part of the picture was rotated and cropped.  You see it above. None of the articles I have read identify the rifle. Shooters are naturally curious about what hardware was used to take a world record trophy. I believe...

In this famous photograph by Bruno Engler, Bella Twin is shown with the hide from the world record grizzly bear that she shot in 1953 with a single shot .22 rifle.  The question is, what rifle is she holding?   It has been written that Jack O'Conner "heard" that it was an old Stevens single shot.   But as he only "heard" this, I do not think it is at all definitive.  This is said to be from page 304 of "The Hunting Rifle", published in 1953.   Given that the bear was shot in 1953, and the reference was near the...

Suspected of attacking several people and killing two, the giant reptile was captured alive in the Philippines' Bunawan township (map) last September. (See pictures of Lolong's capture.) The Guinness listing is based on data by experts including crocodile zoologist Adam Britton, who measured the beast in his home, the new Bunawan Eco-Park and Research Centre. A gigantic python snake in Florida ate a 76-pound adult deer. The 16 foot long Burmese python was one of the largest pythons discovered to date in the sunshine state. According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s exotic species coordinator Scott Hardin, if these huge snakes aren’t killed, they could migrate northward. A government sanctioned shotgun blast stopped this snake from its potential journey to Atlanta or the Carolinas. And just how any inches around did the beast’s belly have to measure in order to covert a 76 pound Bambi into breakfast? 44 inches. Oh, and what is the average...
