I’m a naturalized citizen of the United States. Upon our immigration, my Dad wanted to join the military but was too old, and he eventually owned several businesses. He always worried about his family, so he always worried about his businesses. He became successful, and he made the American Dream possible for us. It was in high school that he suggested that I serve my country first and then go to college. “Why?” I asked. He said because this country has offered every opportunity for our family to succeed, and this was a very small way to repay its generosity. I enlisted and have never regretted that decision. Sounds corny, but it’s true.
