President George W. Bush has been a part of my life for over 10 years ever since I laid my eyes on him in the fall of 2000. There was a sense of aura and charm about him that set him apart from many politicians and the way he talked in a plain spoken manner made me feel connected with him. I proudly voted for him in 2000 and again in 2004.

When the horrible terrorist attacks occurred on that fateful day on September 11, 2001, President Bush stepped up to the occasion to lead and comfort the country through its darkest days. It was when I realized he truly became the strong and decisive leader and he was not going to sit back and let the enemies bring down the spirit of America.

President Bush sacrificed his popularity by making decisions that surely was not popular with certain groups of people and he was willing to make sure that this country would be kept safe and not suffer another devastating attack ever again. Sure, he got attacked every day from liberal Democrats, the media and even from his so-called conservative base who had accused him of being "too moderate." But in the end, he did not care. He stood firm on his convictions and principles and thought that polls were irrelevant. He did whatever he could to protect his citizens here and to give others around the world a chance to have their own sense of freedom and democracy that they may not otherwise have experienced before.

In speeches and interviews, President Bush has repeatedly said that he doesn't miss being in Washington, but he definitely misses being the Commander in Chief to our great military. Even out of office, President Bush continues to actively support our troops in ways big or small. Whether it would be making a surprise appearance at the Dallas airport to welcome the troops home from duty or spending 3 days mountain biking with the troops across the hot, rugged West Texas desert. His love and appreciation for our servicemen and women speaks volumes about the man's character. In my opinion, President Bush was the best Commander in Chief the military has ever had and it would be a tough act for any of his successors to follow.

President Bush is a God-fearing man who is very comfortable of wearing his faith on his sleeve. He took comfort and solace in his faith to help him get through some very difficult times in the White House. That is why he has no regrets nor does he have any qualms about the decisions he made while he was in office. Now that he is living in Dallas as a private citizen, President Bush is finally at peace with himself and any bit of criticism is not going to ever deter him. What's even more remarkable is that he refuses to criticize his successor, Barack Obama. He has said that it is bad and disrespectful for a former president to badmouth the current president. That is one classy gentleman who has shown remarkable restraint by not flaunting himself in the press. He understands that once you've served your time in office, you're supposed to get off the stage. And he has done just that by avoiding the spotlight and not get involved in any type of politics.

Looking ahead, President Bush is confident that history will eventually vindicate him and future generations will view his legacy in a more positive light. I believe that history will also someday prove him to be one of the greatest presidents of all time right up there with Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman, JFK and Ronald Reagan!
