In nonfiction, he's written several how-to books from Writers Digest press, including: You Can Write a Novel, The Writer's Little Helper, and The Fiction Writer's Brainstormer.

He’s a former combat soldier, helicopter pilot, newspaper writer and editor, national award-winning columnist, and magazine editor. He retired from the military after a full career in which the Army inexplicably promoted him to Lt Col.
