Alec Baldwin 'Rust' Head Gun Handler Had Doubts About Experience Level: New On The Job
TMZ ^ | 10/23/2021 | Staff

The woman responsible for handling weapons on the set of Alec Baldwin's "Rust" had only recently taken on a gig as a head armorer, and shared she had real doubts about doing the job.

Hannah Reed -- daughter of Hollywood armorer Thell Reed -- appeared on the "Voices of the West" podcast last month to talk about her new experiences in the biz. Reed told the hosts she had just wrapped a western movie with Nic Cage called "The Old Way" ... and it was her first time as head armorer on a movie.

In a now-eerie confession, Reed says of the Cage job, "You know, I was really nervous about it at first, and I almost didn't take the job because I wasn't sure if I was ready ... but, doing it, like, it went really smoothly."

-snip-

In talking about her training, Reed told the podcast hosts loading blanks in prop guns was "the scariest" thing to her, because she didn't know how to do it ... but it was something her dad had helped her work through.

I don’t know. Sounds like she had the “opportunity” for some good instruction from her father. Did she take advantage of the instruction? She was also the armorer on a Nicholas Cage film.

What were live rounds doing on the set in the first place?

Live rounds are considered as any round with a powder charge in it, so blanks are considered live rounds.

I think I’d trust Autumn more than the bimbo.

Fault lies wholly with the one who pointed a gun at another
human and pulled the trigger, breaking every rule of gun safety.

Okay, with a lead bullet inserted into a cartridge. A blank is not considered a live round.

That's the critical question -- why were there live rounds present at all?

There might be a reason if you wanted to show something being hit by an actual round, and presumably that would happen at a range specifically set up of for that, etc.. If this movie had something like that, then I suppose it is theoretically possible for a round to end up in the wrong place.

But if there wasn't any of that, then the only answer is that someone brought some live ammo onto the set deliberately, and without authorization. That makes me suspect something dicey with the union guys who were fired from the site 6 hours before the accident.

They’re out there in the middle of nowhere and are secretly wanting to know what it’s like to be a 2A enthusiast. Wanted to go plinking for real? A million reasons why you’d have live cartridges hanging around. Still, though, an accurate count and inventory of all live rounds and where they’re at obviously wasn’t done. Stupid Alec Baldwin. Careers and lives are gone forever

"There are SO MANY questions open in this story. Can these people be that stupid? Were they on drugs?"

Evidently, there are people willing to pay for Alec Baldwin on screen, so... yeah, stupidity is pandemic.

I have the same question. That being asked I still believe all guns should be treated as if they have live ammo in them and handled as such. Until they have been checked to make sure they are safe to fire.

I just wouldn’t even hand her my SAA .45 for fear she drop it when it fired. Just looks more like a toy gun enthusiast to me

Nepotism and guns, great combo!
I would say the people on the Nic Cage set got lucky…

I’m just talking about her appearance. Pink hair and tats. If I saw her handling a firearm I’d run the other way.

I Duck Duck Goed his movies. I don't think I've seen any of them. But his face is a bit familiar.

Glengarry Glen Ross is a pretty good movie. Baldwin plays a toxic, ruthless, foul mouthed, evil sales manager. I guess he did not have to act too hard.
