There were about 11,846 U.S helicopters that served in the Vietnam War. The U.S records show 5,607 helicopter losses.

If this were 1994, that may have been a substantial portion of the Soviet chopper fleet capable of flight.

I know of a case in 1993 where a Soviet army Colonel sold some major Top Secret gear to a U.S. Army captain, in uniform, for enough to feed his regiment on the train trip home.

But this is 2024, and the Soviets(in Putins dreams), er, the Russians have a lot more operable machines today.

Wow. So Russia supposedly lost 137 helos in 2 years and Russia still has 13 times the number of military aircraft compared with the Ukraine as of May 2024?  I checked a different website that offers statistics to see how your OP article's data compares. The data below is from SRD, a statistics online website based in Hamburg Germany.

Airpower of Russia and Ukraine in comparison 2024

In fact, if there's any truth to the report you posted at the top of the thread, Russia lost more helos than the Ukraine owns.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1293414/airpower-of-russia-and-ukraine-in-comparison/

Humously, in the article you linked for this thread post, the Ukrainians falsely claim  Russia lost more military helicopters than Russia possesses.

The article you linlked says: "The Oryx blog is perhaps the leading open-source intelligence blog compiling visually confirmed losses in the Ukrainian war since the first days of the war" but I have heard an analysis kind of letting the air out of Oryx's blog info claims -it's not a 'gold standard'.

137 helicopters are confirmed destroyed by picture.

https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html

of those, 47 Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters are confirmed destroyed. This is their most effective attack helicopter and the most advanced; roughly comparable the the US AH-64 Apache. (Most of the others are for transport or of limited use in contested air spaces).

Over half of the total Ka-52 produced are now either destroyed on damaged (repairs may be impossible, due to the western parts needed and are now embargoed).

During Nam, the US had thousands of helicopters. Russia has hundreds, so every loss is a critical one.

Is it in the style book that the invasion must always be referred to as “full scale”?
