The media obsession in vilifying Jack Texeira for “leaking” TOP SECRET and SECRET documents and judging him guilty without any benefit of doubt, is just another symptom of the authoritarian fever that grips many inhabitants of the United States. Forget the first amendment. Stay in the dark and trust the Government to tell you what you need to know. Before you join the mob eager to lynch the poor kid, let me share what some of my friends who are veterans of the CIA and the Air Force have said about this affair in the past few days.
Both men say that the story and alleged facts smell to high heaven. One longtime buddy, a veteran of the CIA, still provides consulting services to the U.S. Government and holds the same high clearances that he had prior to his retirement. He is an experienced operations officer. He has recruited foreigners to spy on behalf of the United States, managed highly classified programs and planned and executed many covert actions. In other words, he is no desk jockey.
We started working together 18 years ago in providing training support to a variety of military commands by writing and executing military exercises. All of our work was conducted in a SCIF and we had the clearances that gave us access to TOP SECRET, COMPARTMENTED INTELLIGENCE. I stopped doing that work five years ago but he has continued on.
During our 18 years of working on these highly classified exercises we have never seen a E3 (i.e., an Airman First Class) anywhere in the SCIF. The enlisted personnel who worked on these TOP SECRET exercises were at least a Staff Sergeant (E5). So what is a lowly E3 doing in a SCIF with TOP SECRET material and no supervision? It simply falls apart based on one document, which is listed as “CIA Operations Center Report: Top Secret.” I worked in the CIA operations center, and I helped prepare those reports, that’s an internal CIA document. No one on a U.S. military base anywhere in the world will have access to that kind of document.
This is elements connected to the Director of National Intelligence. That’s the one place you can bring together CIA, FBI, NSA, DIA, all the key elements. They are the one place in the U.S. government where you can assemble all this material. And the way this was so neatly packaged up — until I saw that CIA document, I was inclined to believe that this was the work of a whistleblower wanting to flag the problems about the public discrepancy about what Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of Defense, and Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the lies they were telling in public, as opposed to the actual reality of what they were being briefed on, in top secret briefings.
This information was leaked about Israel. Part of that comes from a FISA, it’s got a FISA classification on it, which does necessarily mean this is Department of Justice/FBI territory. So again, there’s no way that some National Guardsman doing [temporary duty] at Fort Bragg would have access to that.
And I’m not basing that on what happened to me 40 years ago... I worked in SCIFs and I still have friends who do... None of them have seen anything like this, particularly that CIA Operations Center document, or the FISA document... This thing is too tidy a package, this has been wrapped up nice and neatly, this is like an episode of “Law And Order.”

I think it is more likely that he was about to be a whistle blower on someone big, so the powers that be stopped him with an arrest and a made-up story.

I don’t get the vibe. And if he is, that’s why he would be used anyway. Just look at the people the CIA has framed in the past, from Lee Harvey Oswald on down.

I’ve seen civilian co-op engineering\science students with TSC\SCI clearances at national labs, defense labs & appropriate government agencies. I had a TSC\SCI at a national lab when I was a student. Age has nothing to do with it!
There are other reasons to question the reality of this, but age is not one of them.
