“I see you have money. Give it to me.”
— your local police
Civil Asset Forfeiture should be done away with. One of many things that violate people’s rights by pretending it’s being done to their property (like progressive taxation) that should all go away, really.
Drug runner.
Someone needs to declare those laws unconstitutional and strike them down. HOWEVER, a 25 year old, female, going to Chicago (bang, bang), flying out of Love Field with 100,000 smackaroonies? That’s gangster money. Is she with BLM?
If she walks away without fighting for it, then it must be dirty money. I’d fight in court for a lot less than $100k.
Remind me never to carry $100,000 in cash through any airport in the US (and probably most anywhere else).
Men lose a lot more than that every day in family courts. This government stinks and should be brought back to within the confines of the constitution.
we need to face up to the simple fact that there ARE some crooked cops out there
I have seen police steal citizens’ property
it does happen (with or without these TX laws)
it does happen
we need to get rid of the rotten apples in the Police Dept (and other agencies).....so that the good honest workers there can protect us like they want to
The sheeple get exactly what they have learned through their own ignorance or laziness...
Suspecting a person of being a criminal is different than proving it. I just don’t understand how the police taking 100k in cash from a person without proving anything is not a violation of the 4th Amendment.
Civil Forfeiture is a legal sham. Always has been.
Time to scrap it, completely.
no name, and no picture, ANYWHERE!!! hummm...
In Dallas, they call this a “revenue enhancement” program.
100K on the table.
How much was in the bag?
That is a six followed by two zeros.
Basically if you come to the attention of the police for any reason they can take any cash you have on you and you have to prove you got that cash legally.
Most people do not bother because they know that it will cost more to get the money back then just to let the thief... oh sorry... police take it.
CFA should be outlawed.
Normally, I don’t travel with large amounts of cash. I have, done so, and it was in banded stacks of $100 bills at $10K each that I had the bank deliver at my request
.
Not $100K in 5’s, 10’s, 20’s, 50’s and 100’s in used bills
This was probably "bad money" but we do not know. If they can do this to this individual they can do it to you and this has been done.
I myself have carried tens of thousands of dollars in the Middle East for a very legitimate business. In Dubai they like cash and or certified bank drafts. I was simply moving tons of produce from Dubai to our warehouse in Oman. This was just the way it was done. It was all normal and legal.
This is just plain theft. I support the blue but not shenanigans like this. Wait for her to commit the crime with the money first. This isn’t Minority Report.
