Yet mankind has been modifying crops genetically for thousands of years, first through low-tech hybridization (cross-breeding), now through high-tech hybridization (physically moving some genetic material from one string of DNA and placing it in another). The result is the same in principle, but more predictable because we know which genes will be transferred. There is no basis in Christian ethics to oppose this. Rather, it is a valid enactment of mankind’s mandate in Genesis 1:28 to “subdue and rule” the earth and everything in it.

And over 100 Nobel laureates have signed a statement vouching for GM crops’ safety.

“Many middle- and low-income countries have yet to approve GM crops despite them being declared safe by the world’s leading food regulatory bodies.”

Gee...”regulatory bodies”....why would we Not trust them????

Do GM grown crops produce seeds for future crops?

The government will make it illegal to grow genetically modified plants, but require you to INJECT A GENETICALLY MODIFIED VIRUS IN YOUR BODY!

The knee-jerk opposition to GM crops fails to take fundamentals into account. I'll use two examples to illustrate:

  1. Strip genetic material from a kale plant and put it in a tomato and get tomatoes who tolerate 28 degree temperatures. Probably a good thing.
  2. Strip generic material from a cockroach and put it in a tomato and get tomatoes which reproduce better. Probably NOT a good thing.

Because GM foods are optimized for survival and getting the most out of their growing conditions. Farmers being smart smart businessmen, always want to get the most for their work and monetary investments and GM foods fit that bill. Humans have been doing the same thing, albeit more slowly since we adopted agriculture 10,000 years ago.

The forces of food versus the forces of starvation.

It really is that simple, and the forces of starvation are doing it on purpose.

The biggest threat caused by GM foods is that they can have harmful effects on the human body. It is believed that consumption of these genetically engineered foods can cause the development of diseases which are immune to antibiotics. Besides, as these foods are new inventions, not much is known about their long term effects on human beings. As the health effects are unknown, many people prefer to stay away from these foods. Manufacturers do not mention on the label that foods are developed by genetic manipulation because they think that this would affect their business, which is not a good practice. Many religious and cultural communities are against such foods because they see it as an unnatural way of producing foods. Many people are also not comfortable with the idea of transferring animal genes into plants and vice versa. Also, this cross-pollination method can cause damage to other organisms that thrive in the environment. Experts are also of the opinion that with the increase of such foods, developing countries would start depending more on industrial countries because it is likely that the food production would be controlled by them in the time to come.

There are controversies around GM food on several levels, including whether food produced with it is safe, whether it should be labelled and if so how, whether agricultural biotechnology and it is needed to address world hunger now or in the future, and more specifically with respect to intellectual property and market dynamics, environmental effects of GM crops and GM crops’ role in industrial agricultural more generally.

The article wasn’t very specific, but in the US, gmo corn isn’t used for food crops. It’s used for making fuel alcohol for cars.

The harvest yield is still dependent upon variable factors that normally impact crop growth such as soil fertility, temperature, moisture, planting schedules, pests etc.
