Rock for Life Report 6-23-04

1. C-stone NC

2. Summer Tour 04

3. Volunteers needed

4. In the news

5. New addition

1. C-stone NC

Cornerstone NC was a blast.  We got to hang out with some cool bands, see some old friends and make new ones.  The O.C. Supertones, Cool Hand Luke, the Rock n Roll Worship Circus and Headnoise were our favorites.

More importantly C-stone NC was a time to spread the pro-life message.  Even though this festival wasn’t heavily attended, we had opportunities to minister to people.  We spoke to a couple of kids who weren’t pro-life.  I know we really touched their hearts with the truth, as one kept coming back to our booth throughout the festival asking questions and checking out our stuff.  Also, one father was struggling with his son having Down syndrome and leukemia.  Let’s pray that God will continue to send pro-lifers into their lives to spread the truth that preborn people have a right to live, just like you and me.

2. Summer tour

By the time you get this we’ll be just setting up at our next event, Creation East in Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania.  If you are attending any one of these festivals, come visit our booth.  We have some great literature and some good deals on pro-life gear!

Rock for Life Summer Tour 2004 schedule:

June 23 – 26                 Creation East / Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania

June 30 – July 4           Cornerstone Festival / Bushnell, Illinois

Rock For Life stage at Cornerstone Festival

July 23 – 24                  His America Fest / York, Pennsylvania

July 25                          Boston pro-life activist events (visit our calendar for
                                      additional information)

July 29 – Aug 1            SoulFest / Lincoln, New Hampshire

Aug. 1 – 4                     Kingdom Bound / Darien Lake, New York

Aug. 20 – 21                 Purple Door Festival / Lewisberry, Pennsylvania

3. Volunteers needed

We still could use some volunteers at our Rock for Life stage at Cornerstone.  Job would entail crowd control and moving some gear.  What do you get out of it?  An opportunity to work with America’s premier pro-life youth organization!  Oh, and you may get to meet some of the coolest pro-life bands backstage.

4. In the news

Another student gets harassed by public school officials for wearing a pro-life T-shirt.  Fortunately, the Thomas More Law Center stepped in to protect her rights.  For the scoop, check out "Virginia school backs down: Allows student to wear pro-life slogans on clothing."

5. New addition

For those of you who attended Alive Festival wondering, where is Erik? – here’s the deal. I rushed off to the hospital to take care of my wife and the newest addition to the Whittington household!  Yes, June 15, God blessed me with the birth of my third son, Asher James.  Mommy and Asher are both doing really well.  I’ll keep y'all posted.  Maybe I’ll post a pic or two real soon!  erik@rockforlife.org

Crusaders for Life — Summer 2004

alt

The Crusade is walking this summer — a very long walk from Augusta, Maine to Washington, D.C. We have located hundreds of pro-abortion political figures who claim the Catholic faith, and nearly half of them live in the Northeastern United States.

So that's where we're going. While we're on the road, we'll be praying, attending daily Mass, and witnessing to the people of the region about the simple fact that you cannot be both Catholic and pro-abortion. The walk started on May 29 and concludes on July 31.

We'll be posting additional information on these pages as the walk unfolds. So meet the walkers ... read their journal ... and take a look at some of the cities they'll visit on their 1300 mile walk.

These guys *rock*! (One of the few bands that does while delivering an unambiguously Christian message.)

Rock for Life Report 7-13-04

1. Summer Tour
2. Rock for Life in the News
3. Hollywood & Abortion
4. Say what?
5. Pro-abortion musicians

1. Summer Tour

It has been such a blessing to work with such an awesome team! The tour has not only given me an opportunity to build stronger bonds with my teammates, but also the opportunity to be a witness. At our last music festival, I had great conversations with some attendees.  Two conversations in particular come to mind.

One was with a young man who was working as a vendor at the festival. He didn’t agree fully with our stand on contraceptives. He asked me this question, “If you could save 50% of the babies that will be aborted out of the 100%, will you compromise?”  My answer to him was this: How can we weave out 50% of the best babies and not break our hearts for the other 50%!  Rock for Life cannot compromise! We stand for saving all of the babies! He smiled at me and commended us for our stance.

The second conversation was with an older lady, who married young and was in the army with her husband. She became pregnant and he forced her at gunpoint to have an abortion.  As I was listening to her, I could see the pain of each moment of that day she experienced. Before she walked away, she said, “Thank for listening to my story, and thank you for what you are doing. People need to hear this message.”

Summer tour to me is about educating those who have compromised their heart to the atrocity of abortion, which reminds me to continually educate myself in order to have an answer to every question. It is also about ministering to the hearts of those who have been wounded by abortion and are yearning for someone to listen to their story. May we never cease to ask God to give us His compassion, love, and patience as we are given the opportunity to save babies!
   mickey@rockforlife.org

Here is a list of some upcoming events still scheduled for our summer tour.  If you are attending any of these festivals, make sure to stop by and say, “Hi!”  Also,
check the Rock For Life website for daily journals and photos from the summer tour.

July 29 – Aug 1              SoulFest, Lincoln, New Hampshire

Aug. 1 – 4                     Kingdom Bound, Darien Lake, New York

Aug. 20 – 21                  Purple Door Festival, Lewisberry, Pennsylvania

2. Rock for Life in the News

Check out the Washington Post’s coverage of Cornerstone Festival, Hallelujah Palooza.  Cornerstone is the latest festival we attended.  It’s not the most glorious review of a Christian festival, but it does include a paragraph about Rock for Life.  In it you can sense the disdain for the number of our shirts visible throughout the festival, along with the message we convey on them.

After reading the article, you should also be able to see why it is very important that we attend this festival every year.  Even Christians need to hear the message that abortion kills a baby while seriously harming women.

To access this article, you may need to register.  Registration is free, fast and easy.

3. Hollywood & Abortion

Most of us know that the abortion holocaust has been destroying society.  We are also witnessing abortion’s devastating effect on Hollywood.  Last week Courtney Love (ex Hole lead singer/songwriter as well as widow to Kurt Cobain) was hauled off on a stretcher to a hospital.  We’re not sure exactly what happened—the reports are mixed.  According to a New York Times article (Courtney Love Brought to Hospital From Her SoHo Apartment), a police office reports that Love had an abortion, while the Fire Department spokesman states that the 911 caller reported a miscarriage. But her lawyer maintains that Love has gynecological conditions requiring medical treatment.  Again, we don’t know exactly what happened, but let’s pray that if Ms. Love did have an abortion, she will go to Rachel’s Vineyard for post-abortion counseling and healing.  Once she has received counseling there, then let’s pray that she becomes an advocate for the babies instead of continuing her destructive behavior.

To access this article, you may need to register.  Registration is free, fast and easy.

4. Say what?

“I oppose abortion, personally.  I don’t like abortion.  I believe life begins at conception.  I can’t take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an atheist.  We have separation of church and state in the United States of America.”  (“Kerry says he believes life starts at conception,” Washington Post, 7/5/04)

That was Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).  My question to Senator Kerry is this: What about stealing, voter fraud or tax evasion?  The Catholic faith, along with most, if not all Orthodox Christian denominations, would view these as sins.  Do you think you will be able to legislate these sins against “a Protestant or a Jew or an atheist?”  God help us.

5. Pro-abortion musicians

Unfortunately, there are two additional musicians we are adding to our pro-abortion bands list, SONiA & Chris Williamson.  These musicians are being featured at the 2004 National NOW Conference this Saturday, July 17th.  If you would like to contact them to let them know how you feel about their support of abortion and the destruction of our generation, see below.
