One would think that our journalists, who profess a commitment to the Bill of Rights, would raise the alarm. But they're too busy filling out grant applications to the Soros Open Society Institute.
Last fall, in our report on George Soros,we noted that "The media consistently ignore the fact that this so-called 'philanthropist' has had several brushes with the law," including a conviction in France for insider trading. On March 24, that insider trading conviction was upheld. The Washington Post gave the story one paragraph on page 2 of the Business Section of the paper. By contrast, the story was on page one of the first section of the Washington Times.
This is the perfect opportunity for our media to finally start examining this billionaire's business and financial connections. Remember this is the man who tried to buy the White House for John Kerry. SorosMonitor.com, an educational initiative of the DAMMADD organization, is not waiting for the media. Dads and Mad Moms Against Drug Dealers launched the site because of the millions of dollars Soros is pouring into the cause of drug legalization.

lost my 'sarcasm' tag
dang!
Republican fat-cat money is always played in the press as sinister, corrupt, unfair, almost un-American; but the press has treated Soros with kid gloves, treated his huge contributions either with matter-of-fact indifference or as laudable and praiseworthy.
Hey! that kind of language gets you nowhere.
All references to George Soros should include the qualifying phrase "convicted felon".
"Saint George?!?" The MSM will never touch him.
"The media consistently ignore the fact that this so-called 'philanthropist' has had several brushes with the law," including a conviction in France for insider trading. On March 24, that insider trading conviction was upheld."
And this is the corrupt Soros who is funding the smear campaign of Tom DeLay. While Tom has been referred to the ethics committee 3 times (by democrats), the committee has ruled INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE.
Hmmmmm? I see a projection technique in action here - Soros is blaming DeLay for what Soros is actually doing.
I was happy to see a House member of the repub party standing up to the press today and saying, without hesitation, "Tom has not done anything wrong". I can't remember what else he said - I didn't recognize him - but he was very forceful. It was refreshing!!
For those of you who didn't read all the article - these 2 paragraphs caught my eye:
"One possible reason for the gentle media coverage of Soros is the influence that Soros exercises over media groups through his money. Our report noted Soros' contributions to the Project on Media Ownership, the Independent Media Institute, the Center for Investigative Reporting, the Fund for Investigative Journalism, Investigative Reporters & Editors, and MediaChannel.org.
Soros has always exercised influence over so-called campaign finance reform groups.
Those groups were behind the McCain-Feingold bill to reform campaign spending that also put limits on the ability of independent groups to influence political races. The law included a loophole that allowed Soros to spend more than $20 million to defeat Bush."
Now I understand why McCain has been in trouble for taking $150,000 from Soros' Open Society.
Fine! Then they can be tainted along with him since France has just upheld his conviction for "insider trading".
I didn't know this. Perhaps it's one more reason for which many people don't fully trust John McCain. He sometimes behaves like a liberal Democrat. I've never been able to comprehend what makes John McCain tick.
Perfect, a secularist rag heaps the title 'saint' on Soros, while he yet lives. Very fitting for the Forerunner of Antichrist. (Thanks to MarMema for crystalizing the Orthodox Christian antipathy toward his crusades into that lapidary phrase--I won't even put scornful quotes on the word 'crusades', since they parallel in some ways the activities of the Teutonic Knights.)
Evidently, McCain is not alone - according to the article there is a large group of media organizations which have applied for Open Society grants.
The media are communist/socialist traitors.
That's the bad news. The good news (if I read it correctly) is that Free Republic (and others) made a considerable contribution to the defeat of John False Kerry in '04. We can only grow in strength from now on. Surely, it wasn't a "one time only" phenomenon.
I agree - it was not a one-time event.
Soros is the very definition of predatory corporate capitalism. The man has caused more economic suffering than many dictators have.
You ever see the movie "The Big Chill?" Very liberal, hip, swinging 60s types get together and help each other -- which means jumping into the sack with everyone and giving insider information on stocks... well, for me, that about says it all for that generation. From Kennedy and Clinton's sexploits to Soros's insider information. Kerry could be in there to, if I would think about it longer.
They should re-shoot that movie using liberal politicians. The message is that it's all about being a cool, idealistic, smarmy, dirt bag... And the should public know that those pretensions don't mean anything if you aren't rich to boot!
